Ribh's D'Coopage

I know - sometimes I can't move because they are all tangled up in my feet and they peck at my boots too

So cute! Genius in the round thing. It looks like something I have somewhere which is the top for a bowl fire pit. Never thought to use it for a chick day out. I am definitely copying that idea next time I get chicks! 🥰🥰
Pecking at your feet?.. Now, tell me you don't like that! ( It's therapy!)

Does it have to do with diabetes? I have a feeling...
Here's what the nutritional profile of corn looks like.

A lot of folks are opposed to corn because they think its just a cheap filler. Aside from being low protein, it's a really strong ingredient. And since poultry have gizzards, they can take full advantage of what it has to offer.

Oh gosh. I haven't figured out yet how I got tangled up with a bunch of scientists but that's good information to know. I had so many people warn me away from corn I always felt slightly guilty when I doled it out as a bedtime treat! :lau

Why is corn bad? My flock is completely free-range on half an acre, but I do give them corn and feed (chick starter because I have 15 babbies). They have in the coop to fill up at night and for the mornings before I let them out between 6 and 7 am. I also offer them some during the day. Also, I give them meat shavings from the butcher's saw. They go crazy for it, but never overeat. Unlike my labradors...
It's not that corn is bad for them but they are much like humans in that they will eat sweets (corn) in preference to their meat and veg (decent commercial feed)
Meat shaving. great. I give fish as well. I don't provide any eatra corn. Most commercial feeds have some in.
The tribes here free range over around four acres depending on the number of tribes. Generally the forage here is fair. Mostly unmanaged ground with a large variety of plants and grasses. I still feed them a commercial feed (18% protien, 1% calcium) three times a day.
The problem with corn is the protien content per gram. There just isn't enough and too much carbohydrate.

She's looking good...glad she's feeling better! 💞
Me too. I have no idea what was going on with her. She seems her usual self again though I still have her in isolation so all the food is hers but she's just not terribly big on the commercial feed. She'd rather forage & any weight she puts on is slow.

Well it sounds like what you're doing is working & as long as she's not stressed from the semi separation, she will probably continue to put on weight!
