Ribh's D'Coopage

Wow... all caught up now. @Grammy60 and everyone, those are some gorgeous pictures! @CrazyChookChookLady your picture was hauntingly beautiful, I'm so sorry for your loss, that is truly a crazy situation. I hope that Justice was served, and that you and your friends family is able to find peace.

Best of luck with the hyacinth and bluebells @Ribh... that’s a strange thing for me to say because we had them like weeds at my old house... they came up everywhere from the veggie beds to the middle of the lawn! The hyacinths were slightly better behaved for me, and I adored the crocus flowers of the early spring.

@WhoDatChick im so glad things are working out for Vinny in his new home. Him picking a fight with a turkey right off the get go? :lau Reminds me of my little Sammy chasing the cows! “I can take him, he’s only five times my size... I’m a tough boy, see? see!”

Our weather here has turned very unusual for July. Lots of rain, which the girls aren’t happy about, but it will be good for the fields and keeping our fire hazards down, and the local water supplies full. I’m glad to be back and catching up in everyone’s experiences. Looking forward to more news and updates...

We are very glad to have you back.:hugs

@Aussie-Chookmum: Your girls are well loved & that's what counts. What mine are interested in is the foraging activities available on the other side of the fence. Ha'penny has figured out how to go over whenever she pleases. And when I went out to catch her today she lazily hopped onto a crate beside the fence & with great insouciance hopped back over on her own . *sigh* She's become my less skittish one & will squat for me but she is a very naughty girl & I have a huge mess to clean up tomorrow! :( Your girls are lovely. So pretty!:love

Thanks for the complements Ribh :)
I've been admiring your chooks whenever you post pics but I can't keep who's who straight in my head. I think I need individual portraits/mug shots of each one with their name and breed underneath! :p

You're right about the mess they make. I want them to eat the grass that's coming up in the garden beds but they prefer digging through the mulch of course!:he

Lovely chickens! What breed is the one with the puffy head? I like her style!

That's Alice MaryJanet. She's an Araucana. I hope to get blue eggs from her one day.:fl

I hate to say it but that was nothing. My 4 can make more much more noise than that. Back when I still had my rooster, Jabber, i had a morning where this occurred. Unfortunately I have no recording because I was too desperate to stop it. Patsy and Lilly would call to each other when they got separated. So try to picture this, they are separated and are Bakawking to each other at the top of their lungs. Hattie has just laid an egg and is singing her egg song and Jabber is just standing their crowing his head off. Frankly I thought they were under attack ny something. It was so loud it was crazy. Just 4 chickens at the top of their lungs. I had to go out and gather them all together to shut them up.

:yuckyuck This had me laughing out loud. Such a vivid description!

When we were putting in our gardens @ the end of summer I indulged myself & planted bulbs even though I know bulbs often don't do well in our climate. Freesias will & we put in about 60 in various beds hoping they'd spread over time. They shot up early but have yet to flower. The hyacinth on the other hand are flowering! I was so thrilled [& a little worried] to see them pop up in the middle of winter. Now to see if the bluebells will actually make it... Not looking so good for them.

I love it when the bulbs start coming up. I can't quite remember what I planted where so it comes as a lovely surprise each year. I've planted Grape hyacinth, Freesias, Daffodils and Jonquils in the past and we are getting green shoots already. Hopefully I can get some nice photos to share when they flower if the chooks don't dig them up beforehand.:p

Remember when you were discussing spurs on hens Ribh? Well, my top hen, Tsuki, has a bump on each leg in about the right place. I was a little concerned until I remembered your hen with the spurs. Now I am intrigued and keeping a close eye on them.;)
I'm not sure that was me... but I know hens *can* have spurs. Keep us updated. I believe it's usually the top hen.

I can probably do that again @ some point. :) To start with, because they are my troublemakers :lau, I have 2 Golden Campines [the silver laced are gorgeous & I am still hopeful of getting a couple]. They are screamers, have blue ears, are good fliers & lay a medium white egg most days. This is Ha'penny on her launch pad for getting over the run fence.:rantAnd she had a hidden nest outside the run~ *sigh* Her sister is Tuppence ~ because they are the colour of burnished pennies. :) They are smart & super flighty but my 2 are much better now but most of my flock is really calm breeds.
