It doesn’t matter what it is... it’s because you think of me/usYou people are funny bunnies!
It's truly not terribly exciting, just I'd like to bless you all. You've been great to me!

It's a bit grainy because I had to keep my distance.
Mary the Australorp, Janet the Barnevelder, and Sandy the red layer.
Still no eggs from Mary. One every second day from Janet. 5-6 a week from Sandy.
Not a competition...We're already square @Ribh![]()
Not just you! I had the same thought...When I first saw the buttons - I thought they were "cookies," and wondered why they had 2 holes in them. Duh! I'm sure it's from our heatwave melting my brain.

@Aussie-Chookmum she's not true to type, so her eggs aren't dark brown. Here's a photo of a few recent eggies. Janet's two on the left and two of Sandy's on the right.
Sandy's eggs never have a bloom on them, quite chalky. Janet's always bloom.

@Aussie-Chookmum it's tricky because north of the coop is the back fence, standard urban colourbond - you know the type of fence. So the back fence will throw a little shade, although perhaps it will be stifling. To the east will be the garage, also throwing shade. The west will have the actual coop part, with the back wall against the prevailing winds and rains in winter. The south will face the house. If I follow through with the 1.5m paved apron around the perimeter, there wont be a spot for a tree to the north. But, I love your suggestion, so what I'll do is plant a few jasmine in wine barrel halves. Then I'll mount shade cloth as interior blinds. And I'll use a misting system, which I already do in the coop but not the run. I can't recommend misting strongly enough for hot and dry summers. I rushed home the first day, expecting to find the girls had died from the heat. They weren't even panting. Looked up and said, "oh hi, why you puffing? is it hot out there?"
So this is the wool for my chook obsessed youngest.
It is really *bright* ~ but she will love it.
