:barnie those Brit crochet folks! :gig:lau

That's amazing. I'm so grateful for your thoughtfulness and care.

Strangely, this is the second time such an amazing gift has come into my life. The day mum died, my best mate's mum was possessed by thoughts of mum's transition and my loss and knitted out a work of art in a scarf. So many different stitches, a colour here, a gold chain there, long fringes. Took her a couple of days, then it showed up tied to the front door. I had no idea and my heart and mind were permanently relieved by her kindness.
How lovely! What a wonderful gift.

I didn't know when I started how many people were suffering some sadness or difficulty so it is a special joy to send some love out.

I think sadness is as much a part of life as joy. Learning to manage it is the key to peace on a personal scale. My parents were lovely people but we had very few opportunities to learn about sadness and difficulty. To this day, my brother can't be in a job without resenting it after a while, and it took me a long time to recognise that I was the captain of my own ship and relax into my work.

This is true ~ but sadness in others is an opportunity to practice kindness & thoughtfulness & empathy. Very few of us have the resources to alleviate the large scale suffering in this world but we can all do something on a smaller scale. It was one of my soap boxes with the kids because I wouldn't tolerate their gripping about what they didn't have. As I told the one who is now a missionary: they shoot children in Brazil. She didn't believe me till I showed her. :( While her main ministry is in Chile she has worked with the street children in Brazil. Sadly child trafficking is all across South America.

Children = money is perhaps the most revolting manifestation of capitalism I've ever heard of.
True, oh sage! Some people are incapable of empathy, it seems. Animals, children, women...the list of abuses goes on & on from generation to generation. :(

I wonder if we will ever have a technology up to the job of disrupting the socio-economic nightmares we've inadvertently created. Is there sufficient wealth to provide for everyone? Can it be safely redistributed? I hope a future genius can crack these questions.

Most is solvable, I think. Greed is the problem.

For example: our interior has water ~ lots of it~ but the cost of drilling for it is prohibitive. It is also possible to create artificial landscapes to generate weather in the interior [ie rain] ~ John lived & worked out there for years & has quite decided ideas on how to turn the red centre green but it's not just cost; it's about who controls what & that is decided by who has the most money to throw around ~ so no, while we have the ability I do not believe we have the will power to change things ~ or it would have been done a long time ago.
