Ribh's D'Coopage

Good news! Long ago I made a commitment to do some chainsawing for a buddy today. Later, I realised the date clashes with the royal show, which is an awesome opportunity to see all the chicken breeds, so I was secretly disappointed to spend the day chainsawing. But this morning my buddy messaged to say, "Beautiful day, wanna go to the show instead? We can do the chainsawing another time."

:woot Big chicken shed, here I come! Get those roosters a-crowing and those hens blinking sweetly!

Enjoy the show MJ!

We expect some pictures when you get back! :D

You are both very inspirational.

I can only do eggs and salmon on weekends. Weekday mornings I'm a bit pressed for time.

That’s probably enough to keep her healthy and happy... not as happy as daily treats, all day, everyday would make her, but probably much better for her!

That’s so much fun! We are going to the Saanich fair tomorrow as well... so many chickens but so little time! I might even be up for a few kiddie rides with the farm munchkin and will be ogling the cattle as well!

Speaking of so many chickens... I just bought/traded for yet another rooster :he he’s some sort of heritage meat breed, so either he works out, or he goes to freezer camp at this rate I’m going to have to start borrowing hens to get through the next several months!

Roosters are such beautiful birds. Like M&Ms, it's hard to stop at just one!

Still at the show but taking a break on the comfy chairs.

This pretty girl was my favourite although a dear little blue bantam also said hi to me :)

I will not look at the “for Sale” chickens!
I will not look at the “for Sale” chickens!
I will not look at the “for Sale” chickens!
I will not attempt to buy a calf or llama,
I will not attempt to buy a calf or llama,
I will not attempt to buy a calf or llama,

And I will be especially careful around any “for Sale” Roosters :he:he:he
Granted if anyone is trying to re-home 20-40 hens, I might be in the market for that... if I follow the 10-12 hens per Rooster suggestion I would need 80+ hens :barnie it’s a good thing my three bachelors are mostly peaceable together, Sammy seems happy with his 3-4 lady friends, and I’ve got Chickie Hawk’s daughters growing up (I still don’t have an accurate count on those girls)

Need to buy car parts... but want to buy chickens...

Lunch eggs from a few days ago...

The little yolk is from the meat bird eggs, the one with it from a sapphire, and the top one is from a hybrid red layer

And last nights sunset... we were down at the Farm for Andrews cousin’s birthday party. The picture doesn’t quite do justice to the way the sun was streaming through the clouds, it looked just amazing.

Ok. No Chickens. No calves. No llamas. No roosters. What about wombats? Tasmainian Devils? Platypus? :lau

The eggs are wonderful; such lovely rich yolks!

And that view /sunset is absolutely stunning. My Canada envy is growing. I'm going to have to start saving my pennies... I just blew it up to enjoy it more ~ & you have a blue moon!! That is really special!

Very enjoyable! Saw all the animals and bought two show bags. Saw nearly all the show chickens, the chicks and chooks in the learning centre, and the chooks in the garden display (which were in a very cute but flimsy coop and run that any fox worthy of the name would scoff at - I thought it'd give show patrons very bad ideas about chicken housing). The best part for me were the show chickens. My chum tried to make me buy a silkie, so I had to explain all about my long term plan (Sussexes, Welsummers, Araucanas, maybe cream legbars, etc) and how silkies are not a feature of that plan. She didn't really understand, but she capitulated. It was a very cute silkie.
