Gertrude is going to need a saddle. @Kris5902 did you have a pattern that you used? I'm going to have to make one this weekend.

I just ordered one on line and based them off of it, but I did take some size pictures of the original, but it (a “medium”) was too big for most of my girls. It was even a little big on Mrs Marans. What Breed is Gertrude? You may want to make it a little smaller. And there is a layer of interfacing or thin batting of some sort between the fabric layers. I sewed my copies out of old jeans, so I skipped that because of the heavier fabric.

The video cut out on me early last time, so here we go again. Lavender is going to need some extra help as she gets older from the look of things.

Maybe a step so she can get out is in order. That was rough. I had to put in a step to the roost for Hattie. I do think I will lower the roost in the spring. It is still at leghorn height. My current girls are bigger.

Still way smoother than my CX girls attempting to use their little ramp... it’s a good thing they are so food motivated or they would never leave their roosting box. But I agree that a step or ramp of some sort would be a very good idea, and to the roost as well. Not all birds are meant to perch lightly on high branches... I swear the CX girls think they are actually “flying” down their ramp, all 3” of incline over a foot and a half of length and jumping the 2x4 to leave the tractor? Nope! Poor Lavender, if she was just a little lighter or maybe less fluffy... but she at least is gorgeous.

I also managed to get a few more roosting shots. Stanley my barred rock is really filling out nicely. His favorite girl Gertrude is going to need a saddle. @Kris5902 did you have a pattern that you used? I'm going to have to make one this weekend.

It's not often I hear the girls give a full on alarm call. There's not much round here but they were all going off so I stuck my head out. Small monitor lizard prowling the run perimeter! UGH! I'm not a huge fan of these lizards. They're ugly as, but strong & dangerous. I went out & totally freaked the thing out, banging at the coop wire. Probably about the only thing that might break in...A large one...They've come round before but they don't like hanging where cats & people are. Kirby once treed one hanging on its tail!

If it’s scaly I usually like or love it, but then I don’t have to live with them, and now with the chickens and my recent experiences, I’m feeling a lot less kindly towards all potential predators. The Owl is still hanging out here, and it’s pressing it’s luck. Best to get rid of it before it does get big enough to breech your defenses. I’ve known several people who had them as pets, and they can be quite vicious. At least iguanas (though sometimes quite aggressive and large) are primarily herbivores. Monitors are actually pretty scary lizards... especially big ones! Keep those girls safe...

They're native so I'm not actually allowed to kill it. This was only about 21/2 feet ~ unlike the 8' monster that used to hang here. You are right. They can be terribly vicious & aggressive. I don't keep food in the run but we are one of the few water sources for anything & everything... We found a brown snake on the south side of the house last week so just now I am less than happy about our wild life...

Well give it a good scare if you can... I suppose from the sounds of it the monitors are similar to our Black Bear issues when I lived in NorthVancouver near the mountains.

Oh, I gave it a jolly good scare ~ & just so it knows who owns this yard I had a mass break out mid afternoon with the majority of my girls hurtling here, there & everywhere! Silly girls run to me as soon as I put in an appearance & I pop them back over the fence. It was hot here today but their run is the coolest part of the yard ~ & where Soda headed was where we saw the snake ~ one of our more venomous & aggressive ones. They had watermelon treats & the run hosed down too but give a chook an inch...
