Ribh's D'Coopage

Most people round here start their day early in summer. Just the same this morning's visitor is lucky I wasn't still in my PJs. Mangoes for eggs. :) The man will be happy. I didn't have a full dozen. I've given away heaps this week but we went round to check the boxes just in case the girls had been accommodating & so she could meet the girls who have been supplying her. Lavender got her attention. No~one can believe that girl & it's just as well she's so pretty because she doesn't have the nicest temperament! No eggs but people are always surprised I can keep chooks without them stinking to high heaven!

I think I'm tired. I saw the picture before I read the post and was trying to figure out who laid such interestingly coloured eggs Ribh!

3.6mm of rain overnight!! Woohoo!! The tank is full again and from the tracks on the floor, Blossom has had her paws in puddles :)

The rain has been taunting us here. We have been getting basically a light misting in the morning for the last couple of days. Barely enough to dampen the leaves on the trees.

It feels like the weather is saying " Seee this? Well you can't have it! :p"

Not too much going on with me Chicken wise or on my thread lately, and I’m over “here” and on Bob’s thread more than there right now. Going to have a house update soon though, and planning on getting some chicken Bio’s going soon I hope. I have promised the girls not too many unflattering molting pictures though.

I'm looking forward to it Kris! (but no pressure... ;))

Please post unflattering molting pictures. They are very instructive and help our girls feel less self conscious. :)

It's a testament to her cleverness that she got away with hoarding her eggs for so long. Checking in at night time and adding new eggs to the stash whenever she could - A+ for being sneaky broody.

Right! How sneaky is she? In and out of the coop/run without detection for 2 weeks. What smart little girl. It's a little scary.

I know how stressful it is when one goes missing.
I know how you wish they wouldn't go broody so often.
I will write this though. If your hens are going broody then your keeping arrangements are about right in the chickens eyes. Unhappy, stressed, badly nourished and badly kept chickens don't tend to go broody. So, take it as a compliment.:D
As for the certain breeds have had the broodiness bred out of them; it's nonsense.
What seems to happen is the keeping circumstances and some breeding programs suppress the urge to go broody.

I agree. It is the ultimate compliment from a hen. :D

I am rolling my eyes like mad. Broody hens don't lay eggs! But it's a jolly good thing I don't have a rooster. Not only do I have sneaky Ha'penny, I'm a terrible softie & would let the girls @ it. With my luck I'd be drowning in cockerels before I knew it!:lau

We have the cloud & the humidity but not the rain. :(
