Ribh's D'Coopage

It's a testament to her cleverness that she got away with hoarding her eggs for so long. Checking in at night time and adding new eggs to the stash whenever she could - A+ for being sneaky broody.
Yes. I had thought she might be laying outside the boxes because I haven't been getting many white eggs & it's not the 1st time she's done that but I had no idea she had hoarded so many! :barnie

:barnie:he
So I have 2 barred rocks in broody jail. We are sitting on 28C waiting on the sea breeze to kick in @ 8am & I go out to check on my girls, do a head count & water down the run.

No surprise to find a Campine missing!

Ha'penny. She doesn't normally go far but I called & called & no chookie came running for an expected treat. :he

I walked round & round my yard. Of course it would be a Campine ~ who just blends into everything. After 20 minutes I'm starting to worry. An hour & I'm thinking I've lost her & I never heard a thing!:barnie

I must have nearly stepped on her a dozen times.

Ten[that's right 10] b... roo...dy eggs under her! She had them all covered too. *sigh*
I'm beside myself with these chooks!
Campines are not generally a broody breed.

I do my best to ensure they are safe & well cared for & this! This is what they do!!!!

I am hot & bothered & Ha'penny is back in the run where she belongs.
I know how stressful it is when one goes missing.
I know how you wish they wouldn't go broody so often.
I will write this though. If your hens are going broody then your keeping arrangements are about right in the chickens eyes. Unhappy, stressed, badly nourished and badly kept chickens don't tend to go broody. So, take it as a compliment.:D
As for the certain breeds have had the broodiness bred out of them; it's nonsense.
What seems to happen is the keeping circumstances and some breeding programs suppress the urge to go broody.

I will take that as a compliment, Shadrach! It makes the stress easier knowing they're happy & broodiness is the end result.
