Ribh's D'Coopage

I forget, what are your middles? I thought the cochins were supposed to be pretty mellow birds...? I mean, you expect a bit of attitude from a RIR or a BR or even an Australorp but things like cochins & orpingtons & Brahmas you expect to be a bit less full of angst. :(

I just went out and checked on them.. they were roosting on one of the perches in the corner of the run so I slowly picked them up and put them on a roost in the coop.. they seemed pleased about that..
I heard some noise coming from the nesting area.. Goosie was in there looking quite confused.. as if trapped ... but Claire was in a nest box.. guess she’s going broody :barnie... so I wonder if Goosie has been sleeping in a nest every night and this night she couldn’t because of Claire being there... I tell you.. that chicken be crazy!!!

HA!! The leader of the middles is my light Brahma.. Lilly.... then Goosie Speckled Sussex... and Mak, Cuckoo Marans.. they are 15 weeks old... I think that Goosie and Mak would actually be kind if it weren’t for Lilly :tongue
The Cochins are very sweet and chill but I guess since they have been mercilessly chased they figure “hey, I guess that’s what we are supposed to do” ... they are all such copy chickens! Chicken see, chicken do!

You're right. Your chickens are weird.:p I mean, Sussex were on my short list for being calm & friendly ~ 'cause, you know, ... Campines...:lau & they truly are screamers but Sussex...? Who'da thought? I thought Marans were pretty calm & friendly too...mind you, the breed descriptions don't match my idea of calm & friendly! :( My BAs are calm enough with me & friendly enough in a stand~offish sort of way but introduce another chicken & whoaaaaa Nellie! The only ones who can stand up to them & take them on are the BRs & my Australorp bantam has serious issues with egomania & world domination. :lau
Sorry for blabbing on :hmm
That's what we're here for. :) :hugs

It finally *almost* happened (fingers crossed and knocking on all the wood I can find!) ! I went out to check on my littles and what did I see at the edge of the woods not 40 feet from my meat tractor? A little trash bandit!!! Well I have a bunch of stale cat food thanks to my mom’s stellar storage techniques so off into the trees I went and I dumped about 3 cups of it 50 feet into the trees in the direction the coon left in. I really need a Chicken guardian dog or a gun up here... I feel like I’m going to be making a lot of trips out to the barn for the next few noghts

OH NO!!!! I read *Rascal* as a kid so grew up thinking coons were sort of cute ~ until I joined this forum. Now all I can think is *scary*! Leave NOW.

Oh gosh... well, I integrated the flowers today.. mostly went well.. my big gals are doing very well with them! Not paying much attention at all.. but the middles.. oh the middles :he... relentless! It’s like that’s all they live for.. to just go after the ones they can go after! And Petunia and Vinny.. 2 of the Cochins are enjoying the fact that they FINALLY have others to pick on
Here they are enjoying every inch of the coop/run... I’m going to check on them just after dark and see where they end up.. maybe try and place them in the coop.. they are very skittish.View attachment 1811238View attachment 1811239View attachment 1811240View attachment 1811241View attachment 1811242View attachment 1811243
