UPDATE: So I was spooked that my birds would disappear on me so I rang to confirm this morning ~ they did catch up with me. My choice of breeds began with Campines, then Araucanas, then silver laced Wyandottes. I got the Campines & Aracaunas confirmed separately then together. Whew! However I wanted another 2 birds to bring my flock numbers up again. Nothing in the standards grabbed me but....[drum roll....] they have silver laced wyandotte bantams!!! Ta~da! Like I get wyandotte bantams to run with Lottie but the breed & colour I wanted. I am so super stoked it's unbelievable! I remembered to ask what colour the Aracaunas were & I have a choice. They have a black & 2 splash. I'll look but will probably go with the splash. Now I can hardly wait to go & pick my new girls up. Waiting on a break in the weather to sort out the little coop.

Tbh, no one in my real life understands my chicken obsession so I'm very grateful for you lot.

In the end I had to work in the rain. Both coops cleaned. Tubs scrubbed for the new girls but not put out because so much of the ground is under water. It is very soggy. Normally I would deep litter the small coop but it is too wet so I have shoved a pile of sand in there that they can scratch around. Fresh sugar cane mulch under the roost & in the nesting boxes & I have thrown a tarp over it as everything just feels damp. It won't do an awful lot but it will offer a little bit of extra shelter. All ready to go in the morning. One crate, 2 boxes. Not sure we'll need them all but @ least my pairs can stay together. Butterflies in my tum now...

I have nothing against Polish. I think they're rather cute ~ but not with this flock! My man is very practical. He won't see why I don't want high production breeds. It won't be his heart getting broken so we will do this my way.

Going to have an update on it over on my thread very soon, first floor decking is done, came home yesterday to FIL and BIL attempting to move wall panels with the tractor. After our firewood trip, DH was so frustrated by the small amount of wood the we absolutely had to take the truck up the mountain to get he picked up beer, which was very good considering the how not to use a tractor mess we came back to.

I really don’t know how long it will take us to get the walls up. I’m hoping FIL goes on vacation to Cuba for a long time very soon, and we can maybe arrange a work bee/“please help us be not homeless next winter” party for erecting the walls in his absence. Waterproofing stuff (tar?) for the foundations is coming home with DH today I think. I don’t think the RV is going to make it through another winter. The situation is complicated by most people here refusing to work with FIL and very nearly us over some of BIL’s recent misdoings. DH and I are trying to distance ourselves from being associated with the rest of his family. Some people in the community are gradually warming up to us again. Freaking Family Drama makes me want to become a hermit!

It took about six weeks to dig the hole, level the grade, concrete the floor and get the walls up and roof on with my house. That was with two local builders and myself working. I did something really stupid and had a heart attack in week six. Doing the rest of the work went a lot more slowly. Roughly, you could build a house like mine in three months very easily.
