Ribh's D'Coopage

It's all about daylight. If you want eggs, put a light on in the coop and extend the daylight hours.

I don't do that. I let them have a break from laying every winter. It's hard though. I love their eggs.
What Bob says. I have POL just starting to lay now but I am a lot further north than you are[ hence I get more daylight hours :)] but I am getting very few eggs from 14 chooks. Both my Araucanas are laying 2@ every 3 days, anyone else is rather erratic just now. Aoife has just started laying & seems to be on the Araucana cycle but all their eggs are bantam sized ~ fine unless I want to bake. I do like the big brown BR eggs for baking!
They lay when they lay is my approach. I get many more eggs than I can use. I'm no longer able to give them away to the food banks and I don't bake. I might make some meringues if I get a moment.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I'm glad they are taking a break, in fact I hope Deana doesn't ever lay again, but I have been missing my yummy fresh eggs and the bought ones just aren't as good. 😭

This is Morrigu, my older Silver Campine.

She led me a merry dance round & round before I was able to coral her!

5 minutes later she was doing this while I stroked her...🙄
