Ribh's D'Coopage

Oh she is! Now my little niece in the other hand just got into some trouble at school. I am sure there must be something more going on because she is also a very sweet kind kiddo. We talked a lot over summer and she was really saddened by the George Floyd riots and all the issues that were going on in the States. She will be 12 in March. She wrote a Christmas card to a boy she likes and called him a “jerk” and she also wrote two letters to boys she doesn’t like and threatened them. She even got a go between to deliver the notes to the boys. Smart, She still got caught though. I think there must be some bullying or something going on, as this really isn’t like her. She won’t explain why or what the boys did to prompt her letters, so I’m torn between being proud of her (if they are being bullies as I suspect) and being worried about where she learned this behavior (I always assumed it would be from me, but I’ve been here for three years so I can’t be the source) chicken tax: I covered the awkward chin part of this pic...View attachment 2453464
This little girl knocked on my door, I gave her some meal worms and shooed her back out. Then she flew straight into my door about 5’ off the ground. She wants into the human coop... looks just like hers. Chickens 🙄
Don’t be offended by my suggestion but maybe your niece is the bully. Hahahaha! It happens. It’s the sweet little angelic ones sometimes. I always say “still water runs deep”.
And that is a cute chicken. Maybe she thinks your coop is more cosy.

We have chooks all over the place. We were out today so Wrold nested undisturbed. When I went to throw her up on a roost for the night I found her crop completely empty! 🙄 Mad!
So I dragged her inside & fed her her dinner with added vitamins & got her to drink a little water before tucking her up on a roost with Medh. Such a silly girl. She was absolutely ravenous But went to bed with a nice full crop. She decided that she needed to roost on my arm to eat, which was jolly uncomfortable all round.

Here she is spooking about a cat. The cat couldn't have been less interested.

I wonder why she hadn’t eaten. My chickens do nothing BUT eat!

She's broody. She won't leave the nest. Normally I put my broodies in the small coop for a couple of days & that does the trick but the small coop is presently occupied by the Littlies & I haven't been home enough to break her in the house so she has been in the coop & in there she sits on an empty nest all day ~ unless she can steal some infertile eggs. 🙄 It needs to stop but I actually need to be here to deal with her & that is proving a little difficult.

I haven't been on~line much. For one I have been monitoring Wrold very closely, made more difficult by babysitting duty over the weekend. The kiddies were here, which I prefer. I have so many more options for entertainment here. But Wrold is a pest. I have to literally drag her into the house to eat, where she goes berko because the cats live here too, pigs out because she has starved herself & bats & pecks @ me any time I go to handle her. It is a right old circus!

To add to my misery one of the Vorwerks appears to have injured herself & I have had her in a box in the house over the weekend. I am terribly worried about her & will have to try for a mainland vet run which I am dreading. It is terribly hot & muggy but I'm not sure we can manage another day without proper treatment when the vet would be on the island.

I have been reading but not commenting much as a result & have loads of other things I am supposed to do before the weekend & the hoards descend on us.
Good luck at the vet :fl deep breaths.

Thanks, MJ. I now have an island appointment for tomorrow morning with a watch & monitor option if she gets worse of heading over. I'd really rather not do that. The humidity is about 70% but I actually reckon it's higher. I'm dripping wet & it's barely 9am.

Hope it works out OK. :fl

For my Aussie friends: YD does Brisbane's The Lord Mayor's Christmas Carols each year.

Here is the broadcasting info for any interested parties:
Channel 9, this year's event partner will be filming the event for broadcast. Concert highlights will be televised on Saturday 19 December at 4pm and nationally on Friday 25 December at 6am.

Can you get a medium to large dog crate? That would help.

Not, easily, no. I've tried on the island & dragging one from the mainland would mean a special trip & last time I tried they didn't have the size I wanted @ my produce store. Even pet shops only carry limited sizes around here.
