Ribh's D'Coopage

I don't think my brain works right. I had a go at the game - after reading MJ's post I wanted to meet a squid. But all I managed to do was shuttle between the sick bay and the doctor's office. I never met a squid!
I need to update it so as make it a bit more readable (change column width etc) but my computer is being super-slow (my fusion drive failed so we've had to set up an external one) and every action I do takes about 2-5 minutes to initiate. It will take a while to get to it I suspect. In the meantime (if you are so inclined) I recommend examining things in the environment (you can either type in the command 'examine' or just use X, eg X DOCTOR).

I will owe some chicken tax, once my computer behaves itself again.

Well I got a bit further but still didn't meet a squid. I have the doctor's authorization card and I found a gun on the body of my colleague but when I tried to take it I was told I couldn't find it. But how did I know it was there if I didn't find it?
I don't think I am going to last at this - but I did want to get as far as meeting a squid.

I made progress, but not much. I now am armed, and also have a medical kit and some kind of knock out drug. But I can still only go around in circles!
Giving up for now. Might try again with the new version.

Did you say ‘take gun’ or ‘take pistol’? It can be limited in the instructions that you give. However, that’s some good feedback; when I can access my code again I’ll have to add a few more nouns that it recognises.

Not sure - something worked and I now have it.

Is the music playing? The main loop is quite a large MP3 (nearly 5MB) and it's having to access it from a folder on a different website, which can make it quite laggy, until it becomes cached and gets accessed locally. Which is annoying, as it was the whole reason I created the game in the first place.

What did you find when you examined the doctor? You might be able to use that in her office.

I understand this sort of game might be a bit daunting if you didn't grow up playing them in the 80s. We got a Commodore 64 when I was 10 and quite a lot of the games were text-based adventure games. We didn't finish some of them as we couldn't find the right verbs to use to drive the story forward, and there was no internet to look up walk-throughs! I enjoyed playing them but probably wasn't experimental enough in which verbs I used. Once 16-bit arrived, the 'point-and-click' games started coming out, where you had graphics and a set of commands underneath. So you didn't have to guess the verbs, they were all set out for you and it was just a case of trying all of them to see what worked.
