I have some birds from Chamness, Rhademacher and from Gary (Geareduplyn) that used to post on here. They all vary in type but their body color is very much the same. They all lay a very light colored egg. They are almost white. I was surprised as well. They are much lighter than the eggs I used to get from my production hens. I know that there was a period of time after the turn of the century that many folks desired white eggs. I do not know this as a fact at all, but makes me wonder if they were breeding for lighter colored eggs in these old strains???
Some one that knows these old lines will know.

I agree with greathorse in that you will get "light" colored eggs from you SQ Reds. I have Rose Comb Reds from Dick Horstmen and Single Comb Reds from Dennis Myers and both lines lay a "light" color egg. At one time I had read something on R.I. Red egg color, I will have to go see if I can find it...
