RIR Breed Thread

Do any of you have any pictures of eggs from SQ RIRs? These I got today were kinda light colored, I've had a production Red hen that laid really dark eggs and I just figured the SQ RIRs would be dark too.

Here is Henry our RIR. He is with Henrietta in the second picture. Sadly a dog got her last month. We will miss her. Henry really missed her! We still have Henry and we think he is very Handsome!

Brick, I really like the color of your birds....have you shown your RIRs anywhere? I'm just getting into the breed and hope to show some at the county fair this summer.....

Interesting about the light eggs. The eggs I got from Taters were just regular brown. Not real dark, but not light either.

I agree with greathorse in that you will get "light" colored eggs from you SQ Reds. I have Rose Comb Reds from Dick Horstmen and Single Comb Reds from Dennis Myers and both lines lay a "light" color egg. At one time I had read something on R.I. Red egg color, I will have to go see if I can find it...

The eggs that mine lay are on the lighter side also.

My eggs hatched and I have 14 RIR babies. Oh and one silkie. LOL The RIR's are now twice as big as the silkie but she stills gets around them. I'll have to take a pic of them tomorrow and post it on here. They are a little over a week old. I'm hoping I get some good one's from them I can see that some of them are darker. I want to put them in the Bloomsburg Fair. My two roosters got frost bite this past winter so now I can't put them in.
