Can it be a rooster? The question is about the dark one, they are about 8 months old i had no crowing but in behavior ther is so much difference.

Pullet.

PSA FYI.....semantics, maybe, but can be important communication terms when discussing chicken behavior.

Female chickens are called pullets until one year of age, then they are called hens.

Male chickens are called cockerels until one year of age, then they are called cocks(or cockbirds or roosters).

Age in weeks or months is always a good thing to note.

Hi there, hope you are enjoying BYC! :frow

I agree with other posters... she is an Easter Egger pullet! :ya

I love her coloring. :love (very male like) Plus the way she holds her saddle is much less hen bump and more like cockerel later maturing. Some indicators are irrelevant though.

I can see why this one is so hard to discern, even with my experience, she has me questioning myself! I feel like I can see ONE pointy saddle feather in the very first pic. Her hackles almost seem longer than norm, maybe the pattern is tricking my eye. At this age, all chickens should be sporting saddle feathers which are gender specific...
