OSUMan,
Based on the hackle fade of the male and slightly longer backs of teh females you may be in better shape with the offspring from those birds, for type improvement without sacrificing color I would locate a very well typed BB Red female and place a cockrell from those birds over her. That will inprove hackle color in both sexes, and should also improve type.
Creale is such a beatifull pattern and quite easy to improve type and color with as it is a BB red with barring added. The cross over BB red hens is a very common practice in OE to darken hackle, saddle, etc of teh males and females.

Congratulations on your aquisition, they are lovely start.

The male actually was from a cross of Crele and BBR, I think I have a nice BBR Female but I couldnt get a good picture of her. I got all of these from Don Chandler.
Here is the BBR Female

Wish she was posed better, but she has the hackle color you are needing. One thing with BB red and creale, is the hackle color and fade, females with an even hackle color with produce more even hackle colored males. using females or males with an un-even or fade to the hackles is a big problem with these colors. you can breed past the problem and the BB female you posted appears to have a good even hackle color.
