Ruby’s Toe is Broken & Possible Ascites

On another note, this is why I’m not home. THIS GUY is visiting and we’re at my parents’ place. He’s my little (but big!) brother. Love him!

Thanks, Kathy. No on the dog Med. Gave Ruby 0.65mL of the 50mg/mL. One drop escaped, but she got most of it. Is it normal for a hen to pump her tail when she’s in pain? Maybe that’s all it is.
What I have learned is different hens have different pain tolerances.
I have one hen who is a total weenie. It could totally be. Try not to mix the two symptoms, Meaning create two separate issues.
Even if she’s laying down tomorrow, try to solve the toe/pain issue first.
My weenie hen had a very small abrasion on her footpad and she wanted to lay down most of the day. I have seen my hens pumping their tails often while laying down resting.
The good news is she’ll be comfortable and asleep tonight! Enjoy yourself!

It's been my experience that a hen with a painful obstruction will pump her tail, trying to expel it. She may not be laying, but she could be internally laying. That's all you need right now. Yes, the universe does conspire against us sometimes when we make the mistake of making PLANS.

Try to enjoy your handsome and very sweet brother and trust that there are no issues that can't wait until this weekend is over.

Sorry, I can't help myself. The stuff you showed earlier in the thread is 50 mg per *1.25 ml*, which, if I did my math correctly, is 40 mg/ml.

Yep. I’m a goon. I did use those numbers in my calculation, but good catch! I just typed the wrong stupid thing.

Yes, that’s what I’m worried about. Her vent wasn’t doing anything, but she definitely was not feeling well... face in a corner and tail was pumping. Rusty was pumping her tail before she spiraled downhill. Very subtle tail pumping Friday evening and almost dead by 7:00am Monday morning when the avian vet was available.
