Russian Orloffs

Well with their current condition(poor hatch rate), and the present foot problems I'm unsure I would want to do much other than scrap the idea. I was intending on raising them in a moderate fashion, about 40 chicks next spring. From the look of things I'd probably need to hatch near 200 to get much worth working with.

I would like to keep myself open to Orloffs. Spangled isn't a color I'm too keen on but I can see it growing on me. Orloffs are very much a breed I enjoy to watch. They remind me a great deal of my Buckeyes, however, they have beards and beards are always a plus.

Stopping in long enough to say if you haven't looked closely at this at least a few times it is very worth it because these images show type and color very very well

I am still determined to find myself some muffs....

Hey guys! I just wanted to stop in and post some pictures of my Orloffs...I had a photographer come up about two months ago and take pictures of some of my birds...

The hen with a lot of white is my oldest Orloff. She gets more white with every molt but her type is great and her muffs/beard is so awesome I cannot bear to part with her.

Thanks! I think I'll have my friend come up more often! It was a sweet deal...I got the pictures for free (as long as I keep her watermark on them) and she got free advertising in a newspaper (they did an article on me)--so it was a win/win.

Of course, there were some mistakes--she messed up on some of my breeds and Crevecoeur was spelled wrong..

Most people can't say Crevecoeur, let alone spell the word correctly.


Also, my dad told me he would be the "Orloff Guy" if I didn't want to mess with him. I'll probably hand them over to him and see what he can do. He has these great plans of hatching every single egg he can get but I'm not sure if I have the initiative he has with them. Will be a long road. He spends most of his time at home these days(he had a stem cell transplant for a bone cancer) and I fear he became emotionally attached to them to the point that I am no longer allowed to get rid of them. So I guess he is going to try to hatch and raise as many as he can physically keep up with next year. I guess its good for him, and maybe he will have a bigger heart for him than I currently do. I'm still on the look out for a trio or two of Spangled to gauge the breed, they are still something I hold a little bit of interest with.

Wow! Gorgeous pictures. Orloffs are, by far, my most favorite breed. I've got a few of them but definitely not the quality that you've got.
I think I'm going to have to buy a few of those from you sometime soon!!!

FYI just found another small hatchery carrying Orloffs: A and J in NY.

I got so excited by these pics I forgot to share! I have Irish Muffs coming! One big step closer to my color project. AND I have a home with a guy totally into games so I don't have to keep them or feel guilty that they aren't appreciate. It was a jackpot day. I also managed to get in touch with someone from Russia who keeps Orloffs that I am conversing with now. I really want to pick their brain. What a big break in the RO world for me. Its been so so frustrating having to start completely over and have issues with eggs in the mail.
