Sad, attack - left innards

Before I had chickens or ducks, I found a pile of intestines in my backyard with nothing else around - no bones, no fur, nothing. I thought my MIL played a joke on me because she's been known to play pranks. But, she just laughed and said she wouldn't do that - sounded like a good one and wished she had thought of it. Lol
I can't remember, but I think that I came to the conclusion that it was a bird of prey that probably was carrying it it back to the nest but dropped it on the way. Sounded plausible at the time. :D

Help, I am not sure the predator that did this....anyone know how a rabbit could have its innards pulled out and laid out on a stone? dog?
I got new netting for my compost pile, just uncovered yesterday, at dusk, I added my normal tablescraps, watered it and then went in for the night, found this the next morning: (my compost pile is surrounded by stones) right on top of the stone...innards.
View attachment 1606457 it isn't my chickens, since a rabbit carcas was a couple feet away, but could have been my chickens!! Going to put the netting back up today! Worried now since I don't have a camera out there....
Corvids! Crows do this reularly. Decapitation is an owl, disembowlment is Corvid work.

Wild rabbit or livestock/pet?
there are wild rabbits all around, i usually see them in holes near the creek running behind our house, this one strayed too far, must have been too tempted by the "treats" i throw into the compost pile for my girls....poor baby

thanks! I think it came out at dusk or early morning, between 6pm and 6am the next morning. I am usually out/turning on some lights by 6:30 and it was stone cold. I will keep my eyes open. I am still worried about hawks. I have seen so many of them lately. :( not afraid of me either...odd.

Hmmm, though I did find a carcass a couple feet away, it was directly under a tree. But, my husband says besides being flat, and "torn up" (his words) - "it must have been grabbed around the neck and shook or something since it had tearing", he thinks it must have been a dog, but come on, a dog that lays out the intestines and plays with the rest.....
