Sad . . . Chick in Egg Had Neck Twisted. What’s going on?

Sorry about your chick, and your mom is right sometimes they just don't make it, there was nothing you probably could have done for it.
It may have been turning and got stuck, or it could be a genetic defect, age of breeding stock could have affected it, or a nutritional deficiency in the flock.

What is your flock being fed, including any treats that are not their regular feed?
They got pellets with oyster strength in them but we add more oyster shell mixed with the pellets. We’ve been giving them fruits and salad (organic) for extra along with mealworms sometimes.

Is the extra OS on the side instead of mixed in?

Any thing other than their feed should not be more than 10% of the days feed

No. It’s mixed with the feed but it might be too much. Don’t usually measure how much oyster shells I put in

Ahhh too cute, reminds me of my quail who died, she my best friend

, she used to call me while I was upstairs. So I had to bring here upstairs to my room, with a shoe box, then she escaped though a hole in it lol, good times..

[QUOTE="AshVal09, sorry about your loss, but your mum is right.
If it dies in the egg there really is nothing you can do or even dies while hatching it’s not your fault.
Your a child I would think, correct if I’m wrong?
youngers can get upset with animal death, don’t take it hard on yourself. You did great

Thank you. I’m actually 27 years old but I still feel the pain of losing a chick because I always think what it’s life could be if it survived

Anything other than the feed itself and the oyster or egg shell is considered a treat, giving them more than 10 of their feed in treats imbalances the diet and can cause problems with the flock
Okay. I might cut down on the oyster shells a bit and see how they do

4 months is a little too young.
Wait a few more months.

Also..don't give your birds more than one tablespoon worth or whatever treat you are handing out.
Feeding too much of any treat takes away from a complete balanced diet.

If you feed more than a tablespoon you are feeding too much.

Diet plays a super important role in their health.
