Chicks thrive on heat the first few days of life. They chill easier than they overheat. That’s why I suspect they got too cold. This time of year in Florida, everything is heavily ACed. I bet they’ve been at 72F for several hours, which is too cold.
To Cackle’s credit, they’ve already refunding me for the lost chicks without a fuss.
The two survivors seem to be doing ok. The outside temperature in the shade when I got home was 103F. When I lifted the roof of their brooder, they hid with break-neck speed. I like to see that.
