We just got Pekins yesterday at TSC and while I did research, I was honestly shocked at how much talk of salmonella being passed around with birds. We also have two dogs who we keep on a leash when we go out. I want to have the ducks as free range birds but now I’m afraid if the dogs come in contact with the bird poop, they will potentially bring in salmonella germs in the house. I understand the importance of hand washing after handling them and cleaning a coop. Am I just being paranoid that we are all going to get sick if I have a couple of ducks roaming the property? I have kids and am hoping we didn’t make an uneducated mistake

Oh my gosh we’d all be dead if it was that easy to catch my dogs love chicken duck poop eat it every chance they get and all 5 live inside with us. Now someone with a compromised immune system young or old should def use caution but I feel most of us build up a strong immune system being exposed to things In the environment even poop. Although I try not to handle it but when you have animals your going to get some on you eventually lol
