Salmonella outbreak

i saw on the news there is a company selling pasturized eggs> the eggs are place in hot water, temp like a hot tub, and left there at that constant temp for one hour, taken out and lightly sprayed with paraffin wax. they say the temp. water does not cook the egg, but does away with any salmonella.

I have several reasons why we have our own egg source, one of them being cases such as this. Also, because battery hens are kept in such deplorable conditions. Please note that this video is upsetting:

I agree. I don't understand what all of the fuss is about. I approach all eggs as though they have salmonella, and properly cook them to kill bacteria.

Why is this such a big deal? Are there lots of people out there eating raw eggs?

But but.... soft boild eggs and sunny side up eggs are the best!

What i think it all comes down to is:
We all have our own beliefs of what animal abuse is...
Know what i mean?

So.. its pretty subjective..

Oh, I totally understand that, redhen. I completely respect everyone's beliefs. The whole thing is, when someone posts about this subject & they disagree with it, they usually disagree in a big way. They make out the farmers to be horrific monsters when all they're doing is trying to make a living just like everyone else. Most farmers are born into their livelihood... It's what they've always been taught to do. Without them, our world population would drop a few billion people due to people who either don't want to raise their own food, or people like my mother who can't grow a plant to save her life, lol. It just drives me insane when people bash a person just for what they do because you don't agree with it. I raise my own birds & of course I love free-ranging them but if I had to, for any reason, move to battery cages I would because I've seen how they work, seen how the operation works and seen how well those hens are cared for.

"When we get eggs, we get eggs. I don't mess with Mother Nature by giving them the hormones and the chemicals to make them lay eggs," said Hager.

Ahh, the easiest word to throw out there to scare people.

Chemicals to make them lay eggs? Does that mean he has super hi-tech chickens that lay eggs without chemicals? It never ceases to amaze me how ignorant some people can be.

Roddy, thanks for posting that load of bull. I need something to laugh at.

OEGB...I posted on the "comments" part of it. Absolutely ridiculous. Looking at photos of his birds made me sad. What about those eggs that are partially developed because he has too many roosters in the pens and not all of the eggs will be found the same day the eggs are laid?

Just disgusting housing for them...that and the bullspit of lies they printed.
