San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I have 2 hens brooding right now in the winter. Is this common? Does anyone have this happening right now? My non setter Seabright just had her chicks 4 months ago and is brooding again?
Yep I have heard of them brooding Back east in the middle of a snow storm. In a Drawer of a fellows work bench....LOL. He said his work shop is not heated for the most part. Just protected.

@OffGridMAMA -- that's a beautiful blue egg!

On broodiness - none of my girls have gone that route yet but I suspect one of RIRs might.

Anyway -- the rents have encouraged me to hatch out chicks so we can have more layers and start selling the eggs so I can start transitioning in paying my own rent.
Those anyone know where I can get some cartons?

Wow are those Dairy Cows?  Are you going to milk them?

They also make EXcellent Oxen.

All are boys :( the Jersey in the middle will be kept for stud, the others will be steak dinners. We are planning on buying a milk cow this spring. I want to make cheese :) mom always did when i was growing up. So I know its hard work, but worth the effort:)

just get a water bufallo - much more of a conversation point.

my Motza (rella)

I usually give them a few so they can be moms. My problem is I really don't need any more chickens. Right now I am trying to reduce my flock. I currently have 7 Roos that need homes.
