Hi everyone, thanks for the food! I forgot to buy some soap before leaving.
I ended up sticking around a little bit because when I went over to see the new ducklings, that Canada goose came over and attacked them. Some guys who were fishing threw rocks towards him and he finally got the hint and went away. Then, he went and got into a big, vicious battle with that white Chinese gander. In the meantime, the mom and the ducklings went out into an open area where a crow tried to get them, but I chased the crow away. They ended up going right back and settled down about 20 feet from the Canada goose. At that time, whatever rage he had was gone (probably from the fight) so he ignored them. I sure hope they're going to be OK. I can't be there 24 hours a day and Canada geese are everywhere all over the country, so this isn't an uncommon occurrence.
Last year, that mom raised 5 out of 6 ducklings, including the flycatching one. Already, three or four of her ducklings are being very disobedient, doing their own thing, and not keeping up.
And, another three ducklings from another mom popped out at the same time. That mama had a hard time last year with her two ducklings who kept wandering away from her. Motherhood didn't click in for her until the ducklings were about 10 days old. But, this time, she was very attentive and motherly.
