San Diego Chicken meetup and Chat thread

I brought up the idea to my hubby.  He is on board...now we are just trying to figure out a weekend that will work.  Any suggestions to have it?  Places that have worked out in the past?
We've had some at Lake Murray in the past...just not a lot of tables in the shade, but we can bring our own. Have done some at Collier Park in Ramona, which has lots of shade and lots of tables...just a scorcher this time of year. When were you thinking? Just set the date...some will be able to make it, others not. There's always a good turnout. Wherever to choose you'll need to okay it with the place unless it's a private home. Some parks require a permit, others don't.

We have three easy ups if that will help.

I'll be there, but I you may find me hiding out in your fridge.

Just realized that I never responded to your message, Cari... the 11th is the last day we have son #1 home, and we have to take him to the airport in the early evening. We're cramming in all of his favorite last-minute things this week, and wrapping up with his favorite lunch on Saturday. (We won't see him again until Thanksgiving at the earliest, and possibly not until Christmas. Sigh.) You guys be VERY careful in this heat! I just went out to give everybody watermelon and turn on the misters, and dang - it is roasty toasty. Looks like plenty of t-storms over the mountains, too.

My vote for a summer meetup would be somewhere on the coast!

I've never been to a coastal meetup yet, and it would be nice during the blistering heat.

Also - I think I have too many chickens. That is all.

I drove through the thunderstorms in the mountains to get to my house today.... Were talking rain drops bigger than my HAND hitting the window so hard the windshield wipers were buffeted. The road disappeared under splashes. It lasted about ten miles then I was out of it. OMG. Lightening hit twice and I think it started a fire in Campo but they got it out before I came home.

So hot at the house the chickens all had their wings out slightly and panting. I let them all out to mingle for the first time and had a couple of dust ups between Roos. The WELLIE Roos know they are bigger and heavier but they dont have spurs yet. My little Auracana Roo got a few feathers pulled before I grabbed him up and rescued him. LOL. Hot Stuff was pretty gratefull. They didnt mess with the Barred rock one peck and he shoots up in the air.... Hee hee. No dummy there.

It was too hot for such shenanigans and once I got the waterers cleaned and feeders filled every one went back to their partitions. though I did grab up about four Wellie hens and put them in the other pen. The little Auracana hen got busy giving those hens what for..... She will be happy now the four roos she is with will now have other objects of their affections....

Honestly don't know. Our weekends are filling up quick over here.
