Hey! So I was just completing my first health check in a while on my flock and I found what appears to be an old open wound (most likely caused by my roo) on the side of one of my hens. It seems to have been there for a while and I just feel terrible that I didn’t find it sooner! The skin around it seems to be yellowish and I can’t tell if it’s a scab or a bunch of dirt inside of the wound. She also has a huge rooster rub on her back which is just starting to heal over. What should I do? She is healthy and alert in all other aspects, there’s no oozing/blood, and she’s still eating and acting normal. Should I take her to the vet, or is there no point since it seems to have healed on it’s own? Ahhhhh

It’s not healed yet. That’s dead tissue in the wound, which will have to be slowly removed so the wound can close. You can use warm water soaks and ointment to soften the tissue.
