Scalped Cockeral

Update on Conner:
Set back a five days ago.
Conner had his face pecked by Bernie pretty seriously.
He has two blood blisters on edge of beak and eye is swollen shut.
Bernie was returned to the coop and we're treating with tetramyacin ointment.
Conner is growing, getting cocky and muscles continue to regenerate at an amazing pace.
New feathers coming in around wound edges are itchy!!
Conner has clawed himself to bleeding twice.
We clipped talons and beak Sunday. He didn't care for it, but he hasn't withheld any snuggles or songs.
He's still a chirping happy Roo.

Awww...I'm sorry there was a setback!
Terramycin eye ointment is good stuff. If you notice there is pus in the eye, flush with saline and clean that out every day too. Hopefully it will heal up quickly.

Well, Bernie just was a meanie!!
I'm sure the new growth is itchy! You can try putting band aids on his toe nails too, won't stop him from scratching but might "soften" the scratch a bit. A little coconut oil on the itchy places may give him some relief too.

As long as he's chirping and giving snuggles/songs - he's still doing good:)
Thank you for the update!

Will the blood blister on his beak dry up and heal?
I didn't realize a beak could get injuries like these, but I've busted up a thumbnail before so I know it hurts!
Do you have photos?
Yes, a beak can get injured just like anything else. If it's just scabbing/cut or something like that, then it should heal fine.

I once had a bantam cotchin rooster tried to fly off a roost and get his spurs stuck on it so he was hanging upside down. the other chickens pecked one side of his face so badly that there was nothing left but skin he lived though.
