Seeking Advice- Moving a Raised Coop

The advantage ime of a coop like that is exactly that it can be moved. I move the coops around here fairly regularly as it gives the ground a rest which does get mucky despite the chickens free ranging.

Do you think it'd be possible to build a rectangular sled out of 2x8" planks, set the coop legs onto the sled, and tow it with a vehicle? The ground is fairly flat.

Yes, if the driver is sensible. You'll be restricted to small movements with planks under the outside legs and a nailed on skid on the center leg, but it should work.
600lb sounds a lot but two reasonably strong men can lift and stagger with that.;)

I'd love to be able to roll it on pipes/logs, but not sure how to do that with the 5 legs on it. Thank you for your reply!
In order to move it I suggest you remove the legs, build legs/platform where you are going to put it. It's too hard to try to move it (except for carrying) with legs on. I would take them off for moving. I can't imagine moving it with the legs without a tractor or something to lift it! ;)

Make a sled. Get yourself a piece of plywood slightly larger than the "footprint" of your coop, attach a strong rope "loop" to one end and get the ply under the legs of the coop.

Now get a few strong folk to drag it across the yard.

And now that I'v posted this I see others have already suggested it. I guess I shoulda read further first.

I would suggest attaching a frame with 2x6 boards or wider around the legs at ground level.

Then I would approach you move in this fashion.

So did you move it yet? What method did you use? Do tell! :hugs

Hi! We haven't moved it yet as the rain has been incessant! I'm even still trying to decide whether it's worth the trouble or if I can stand to keep it where it is now. If I decide to go for it I will certainly share an update :highfive:

Could bolt or screw a couple 2x8's on edge to the outer legs.
Lift coop first so a few inches of the boards are lower than the bottoms of legs.
Then use 3 or 4 large(3-4") pvc pipes to roll it.

I can understand we are drowning here too. We are 7 inches over our normal rainfall and it keeps on coming! Keep us posted on what you do, when you can do it! :p
