I couldn’t believe my eyes when I ran across this recipe earlier today.

I don’t know if any of you remember Gak or not but we used to make this all the time. It’s really easy to make and the kids loved to play with it. This stuff used to keep my kids occupied for hours.

My kids are too old to play with it anymore but I know some of you have kids that would be just about the right age to enjoy this.

Gak

Small mixing bowl
Large mixing bowl
1 cup of warm water
1 tablespoon of Borax
Food coloring (any color)
4-ounce bottle of Elmer’s Glue

1. In the small bowl pour the whole bottle of glue into the bowl fill the glue bottle with water and pour in, put a few drops of food coloring (but not too much or it will die your hands) mix well.

2. In the large bowl mix the borax and the warm water, stir until dissolved.

3. Pour the glue mixture into the water mixture, then kneed the forming slime and when it begins to take form gather it up in your hands and kneed it until it is firm and does not stick to you when you touch it.

RE: The question about oil of oregano, I have used 2 varieties of oils: Simplers and Young Living. I think the YL is only sold through dealers, so that might be tough to find. I have bought these based on the counsel of others and don't really know anything about quality oils yet

I use this in my sinks and tubs and it works wonderfully.

Homemade Scouring Powder

1 cup baking soda
1 cup salt
1 cup Borax powder**

Mix all ingredients and store in an air-tight container. Use as you would use commercial scouring powder.

Has anyone tried this without the colorsafe bleach? I told a friend about this recipe and she would like to try but doesn't like using colorsafe bleach. Anyone know??

Also, for those of you that have been using your homemade laundry and dishwasher detergents for a while now, how is it going?? Are your clothes looking dull and or dingy at all?? I've bought the stuff to make some but am still using up my giant box of store-bought stuff. Thanks!

I made some liquid soap a couple of weeks ago because I just couldn't wait to try it. And so far so good. So now I am trying to use up my store bought one and some of the loads I use the stuff I made. Smells good and seems to work good. Next one I make will be the dry stuff.
