Setting 7/21 - should be due on 8/10 anyone else?

I had 9 fuzzy's this morning in the brooder. 3 eggs left in the bator

hopefully these will be out when I get home. I did find one more egg that apparently wasnt fertile and got overlooked at the last candle, so 9 out 12 have hatched, not bad for a the first run of my homemade bator. Come on last 3!

Well - little AC won't be a lonely chick for long - tomorrow morning I'm meeting a lady to get two almost day old chicks to be her brooder mates. I believe she said they were mix breed - Ameruca? & Black Copper Marans? I'll verify the breed when I talk with her. At this point I am not picky as I just want some warm bodies for her to keep her company.

Our 4 week old WLs are moving out to the coop tomorrow for their first time and making way for the newbies in the big brooder. I came this close () to ordering 25 chicks from somewhere, but I couldn't tell when they would get here and if they didn't come soon little AC would still be alone. Interestingly DH did not seem phased when I mentioned the possibility. I'm glad I didn't do it. We have neither the room nor the desire to have that many chicks..well maybe just not the room

Congrats to all the new fuzzy butts!

Now at 25....still another 20-25 eggs to go. Lots of pips. :)

30 and two zippimg

3 more at point of hatch. Some of the remaining eggs are dead. I've checked 4-5 and they were dead before absorbing yolk. That would put them right about lock down. Wonder what diff would have been if they had been left in turner. Never really know!

and the White Leghorns are playing in their exercise pen and will be moved into their coop tonight.

AC in the middle isn't sure what to think - but I suppose will like having other chicks in the long run

Smokey, Bandit and AC busy chowing down

This is Bandit on the left and AC on the right

Here is Smokey hiding behind the feeder

The remaining 3 eggs were finished - I checked them and none were still alive or growing. I didn't open them - decided to not do that this time. Out of 14 eggs - only little AC made it - but I guess that's more then I expected with the severe heat we had in July.

Congrats on all the new chicks!
