Day 7 here, I just candled the eggs:
I got shipped eggs and set:
16 Blue Rock eggs- These eggs got lost in Wisconsin though and went through the wringer. They were perfectly packed, but I think the detour hurt them. I think they may have gotten too cold.
16 Black Copper Marans eggs, 2 broke in transit, and 2 more had to be pulled out for leaking egg white. So 12 set. They almost all arrived with completely detached air cells, they obviously had a rough trip too.
and 8 fertile brown eggs from our local grocery co-op refrigerator.
Today's results: 35 eggs still in the incubator
I'm down 1 Blue Rock egg, as it glued itself to the turner, and I broke it trying to get it off
.
So out of 15 Blue Rocks I have 3 good eggs, 5 maybes and 7 clears.
Out of 12 BCM eggs: 4 are definite no's. The others are hard to tell, I'm thinking 4 good, 4 maybes. It's also only day 5 for these ones, and the lovely dark shells make the candling hard.
From the 8 co-op eggs: 5 are definitely good, 1 is definitely clear, and the other 2 are maybes (or most likely not).
All of the maybes have significantly less development then I'd expect, and no signs of life, and 2 have possible blood rings. All of the no's are basically clear from what I can tell (or only had very minimal development).
Getting 2 sets of shipping damaged eggs is frustrating, but the seller's have been awesome and I'll be getting replacements for just the cost of shipping.
Hatch date of Feb 1st and 3rd.
