Setting eggs this week 19th Feb- 25th Feb

I just set 24 eggs on 23 at noon. in my home made inc. that my son made me I have been playing around with it to get the temp right on the water heater therm. and finally got it pretty constant at between 101 and 99. some times it goes down just to a little below 99. But I think it will work. 24 eggs are too many for it but the rooster has way too many hens to service all of them and has a few favorites so I am hoping for many 10 to come through to finish. That is just a hope.

I have10 EE eggs in. Roo is EE. The rest are a mix of possible turken (hopely two) Production red, Production black, Silver laced Wyandotte, 2 brown leghorn, new hampshire. Plymouth rock, Welsommer, Dorminque. Could be any one of them. I think that is all. I am sure of the leghorn eggs because they are the only white ones.

Looks like a great incubator! Good luck!
I just set 41 eggs today - Iowa Blues, Cochins, EE, Welsummers, Columbia Wyandottes and some interesting mixes. Hoping it goes well, first time using this incubator

I hope it is a good incubator. It seems to be holding the temp well for now. The humditiy is a little off and on but I understand that isn't as important right at first as much as temp.

Good luck with your set too. This is so much fun!

I just stuffed the last of the eggs for today under my BO. she went broody so over the last 4 days She is sitting on 8 EE Olive eggers, 2 BCM, 2 silver laced cochin 1 unknown brown egg and 2 of her's The roo is a splash Maran. The 25th I start collecting them for an empty spot in an incubator some one is advertising. Going to see which one has better luck mam chicken with 15 or incubator with 36.

I'm setting 12 plus tomorrow afternoon. I have 12 collected and will throw whatever is layed tomorrow in as well. Should have GLW, RIRxGLW and BRxGLW. Possibly a polish cross or two. I've lost 5 pullets in the last month or so. That's my excuse.....:p

I can see why people have so many issues. During my empty bator test everything was smooth...Now, with the eggs in it, the incubator wants to roam to 104 and now back to 97. In my tinkering with the thing I think I have found the thermostat though. I have been trying to get it just right all day. Hopefully it won't be too late for these first few eggs.

My first incubator build from last year swung constantly from 96 to 104. I felt like the average of those (100) would be the internal temp of the egg. I had great results with that. But, my temp change was a CONSTANT up and down. I hatched 12 of 19 like that. I rebuilt my incubator this year into a bigger cooler and I've already hatched 26 and have 31 looking good to hatch in a week. I moved my thermo to a wire cage built around the light bulb, and it was instant steady temperatures. Also built it into a big styro cooler so i got a bigger capacity. I can hold 3 doz without anything getting too hot.

Okay, candled the eggs last night and 5 out of the six are right on target. The last one I will have another peak at tonight but it looks like their is bacteria growing in there. I have a question for anyone who would like to field it. I modified my order with Welp and they told me my chicks would be arriving a week after these hatch( I had planned on it being just a day or two). Will this make too big of a gap in their ages to put them all in one brooder? I just finished my brooder and it is a three stack rabbit cage that I have modified. I can put a max of 35 birds to four weeks of age on each level. As I have 41 birds coming from Welp, I wanted to add this hatch to them and I was hoping to only have two levels going for now. Opinions please.
Trying not to count the chickens ....
