Setting the week of August 22 (or so... ) Everyone join!! You know you want to!

I am only on day 6- i have ameraucana and black copper marans eggs in there so I'm not sure I can candle them. I will be weighing my eggs tomorrow though :) So far temps seem to be good, humidity is between 30-40. I added a tablespoon of water a couple times the last couple of days because my acurite digital thermo/hygro combo kept reading 16% humidity (which is the lowest it could go, so it might have been lower than 16%). However, that is all moot as I just discovered after calibrating a second analog hygrometer that the humidity for the acurite was more than 10% off, and although my temps were fine the acurite was reading it as 97 or 99 (never ever showed me 98). I going to return it, I know other people have found it very accurate, but mine is totally inaccurate, and you can't calibrate it.

The good news is I just bought a fantastic probe type thermometer that I calibrated with the ice test and its spot on with temperature. :) It's made by Coralife and its a aquarium thermometer but it has a probe so I can put the probe through a vent and on top of the eggs and see the temperature from the outside of the incubator. Top of the eggs reads 99.5-100 yay! It also gives me fractions, which the acurite I bought doesn't. And best of all it was only $15. So now I have two glass aquarium analog thermometers in there at turner height, an analog humidor hygrometer and the coralife probe thermometer. I'm relieved that the incubator seems to have been in the right parameters all along *whew*.

Since we are all on different hatch schedules, I would love it if we could also post what day we are on in our posts? That way I can follow you on your hatch!

So me first DAY 6 (but I said that already) ;)

I am on day 10 and just candled the eggs, all look great today.

I do have a question for anyone who has hatched Muscovy eggs. I have a hen that had been sitting on a nest, she has had 7 hatch and the remaining eggs look behind when candled, if she abandons the nest, should I put them in my incubator? The problem is, I have 1 incubator and it has 6 chicken eggs in it right now...

I have room to add the duck eggs but I would have to up the humidity and that may harm my chicken eggs right?

I'm gonna add a few chicken eggs to my duck hatch tonight... (have some blue andalusians that were covered by RIR <or possibly silkie> and I wanna know what they'd look like and what color eggs they'd lay <G>)

Yay! My eggs arrived! I will be setting them tomorrow, hope all will go well... also, I had a question. I got 18 eggs in the mail from the breeder, but my incubator can only fit ten... can I stack eggs ontop of each other inside the bator, or is that bad? I spent quite a bit of $$ on these eggs and dont want them to go to waste!

My opinion is don't stack. They need room to breath. If it were me I would run out to the farm supply and get another bator.

I am on day 7.

I acquired a beautiful roo to go with my buff orp pullets. He is only a month older than they are. From the Clevenger line so he is big and beautiful and super friendly.

Does your bator have a fan? If yes then stack and rotate every time you turn them. What kind of heat source do you have? There are posts on here about stacking that are very good. I have not stacked but have read about it. Just remember that the ones closest to the heat source might get to hot.

My ameraucana eggs

I have eggs off to the side of my turner and turn them by hand. I stacked a pullet egg in there just to see what it would do. when I candle the eggs and take out the ones that didn't develope, I will fill the turner with the eggs that are off to the side.

I'm on day 7, and I'm considering adding 3or 4 Blue Andalusian/ (RIR or Silkie) cross... they should all have the same hatch dates that way.
