Oh no, I'm not expecting much out of the shipped eggs, I meant I plan on losing 2-3 fom the local eggs that are already developing ! I've read all around on good shipments and bad ships, all depending on different things. I know not to expect half of those to hatch ! I have around 8 developing chicks now from the locals and will end up with around 5, I know. Thank you for the heads up, that was VERY nice !!
I look at all the dead eggs, but since I'm just beginning, my eye isn't really trained to be able to tell, say, "This looks like a day 5.." or "Probably around day 17.." but I still take a look at them.
Also, is 3 a good number to expect to lose since we're done with the most important days of development ?
Icant tell you about what you will loose. There are just too many variables I dont even know what i will each time.. Each shipment is different too .Some really good and some terrible some soso just hard to predict at all. Then theres the incubator itself..if your temp get way too high or varies too much if your humidity gets wonky.
But shipped I 'll tell you now what i am doing. I get at least 10-12 eggs of anything i set no less. That way I have a greater chance to get more babies MY first 2 hatches i set 6 and that just didnt work at all for me..I need better odds.
The more you look at the eggtopsys the more you will sort of be able to get close idea Maybe not day 5 but around day 5.
Does your incubator give a troubleshooting chart?
Good to look at after you eggtopsy your eggs. Also its good to have the local eggs in with the shipped THEN you will be able to tell better what is going on .Someone did that the other day used them for a control and i thought it was genius
PUt local eggs in with shipped b/c most local hatch WELL I have heard. So if they hatch and the others dont thne it wasnt your bator.
...Look at the photos someone has up on learning center on development each stage. Some one teel wehat develps to oweach stage. Its a drawn set of pics.
I usally dont count on anything until candling on day 18.Then if the egg looks all dark ..you probably got one gonna hatch BUT that just me.
But its nice to watch them grow too and its how you learn. I only candle day 10 then day 17, sometimes another time inbetween to see whats up.But my eggs have been all brown ones and ireally usually dont see much but a dark blob a few times veins but most times not even that..Guess i can use a better candler.
They say going by the egg weight is the best indicator of how well they are doing with the humidity you are using .The air cell size seond best wa y to tell. .But i always forget to weigh them before iput them in. .
Also i read they develop the most until day 7 well grow wings legs beak etc some ppl say dont candle before that but seems lots do and are ok.
There are lots of theorys out there as you may have figured!! LOL
