Setting the week of August 22 (or so... ) Everyone join!! You know you want to!

Thanks for making me feel better. I have 15 eggs going in about midnight tonight. What should the starting humidity be? It is currently 53%.
That is perfect humidity. You want it between 50 and 55% (I go lower for the tiny bantam and Serama eggs) for the first 18 days, then you increase it during lockdown

Day 0-18 : chickens 40-50%
Day 18-hatch : all species 65% or more
This is a good formula too, you just don't want it so humid that the air cels don't evaporate correctly. If your humidity is too high, they stay small and then you have hatching problems

I found out the hard way...it's much easier to raise the humidity than lower it once in lockdown & hatching begins

Some of these are going to be staggered, i have another incubator I am going to use for the hatcher.

24 Gabbard "surprise" purebreds, will be put in 8/23
24 Americanas

I only planned to set a few, but I got bit by "the bug" and went crazy!

Am I too late to join??? I hope not! This is my first hatch. Shipped eggs, roughly shipped with many casualties :( ...but I am still hopeful for the 11 I have left (a couple detached air sacs so I'm incubating upright). Just set at 8pm today.
4 australorp
3 speckled sussex
1 ameraucana
3 salmon faverolle

Oh - and it's a homemade incubator! I'm really fighting the odds I think!?

My chicks are hatching one out and the other three pipping woot. My friend got the bug now and she's going to give me give more quail eggs and approx. nine mixed chicken eggs to start on Sunday

I couldn't help myself and candled all the eggs. 2 have very see thru shells on the small end and i saw one detached air sac. It was cool to see in that I knew what I was seeing and how to treat it. They are going in tonight still but I am going to incubate them upright and start turning around day 4. Candle on day 7 and 18. Does that sound right?

I would check the airsac before you start turning them just to be sure it is healed. You can hand turn the ones that are okay until the detached one has time to heal.
