Setting the week of August 22 (or so... ) Everyone join!! You know you want to!

Thanks for your reply! I will have anouther batch going in soon of my own eggs but I am looking for SQ breeds so I have to order some for that purpose. Now I know that shipped eggs just are not as good! Though I will leave them in for a couple days longer, maybe a float test?

I have a Havobater Gensis 1500 series with auto egg turned and a fan. Air cell size seemed to be fine but then again this was my first hatch so I could have mis-calculated. I also waited about 30 hours before setting my eggs after the arrived so I will be putting the next batch in sooner. I also am going to TRY and get eggs from somewhere near SC so they do not have to stay in the mail as long. Thank you so much for your answer! This makes me feel a little better about the situation!
If you aren't sure about air cell, you can do what i did which is also weigh them before you set them and keep track of how much weight the eggs lose by lockdown - the target weight to lose is about 13%. My shipped eggs had really weird looking air cells, so I'm glad I did it that way, as I really wouldn't know how to tell if they were the right size - they look nothing like a normal air cell (mine were saddle shaped). And the one shipped egg that had a normal looking air cell didn't hatch...

In my situation I don't think I took into account that the shipped eggs were actually several days older than the marans eggs and so started off with bigger air cells. So I think they lost too much weight at the humidity I was using. But I was in between a rock and a hard place- up the humidity and lose the marans, or keep things the way they were and hope the ameraucanas make it -and I did the latter and at least one of them did :)

Okay everyone you will be amazed today is day 21 for my EE on shipped eggs from DMrippy. She sent 15. I dropped one, down to 14 gave all 14 to the EE and hope for the best at day 18 candled removed 2 clears, gave back 12 eggs, one that looked ifie, went out a few minutes ago, momma hen off nest with babies under her in small brooder run. She is a first time mom and drum roll please..........she hatched all 12 within on day 21. These babies are hefty and soild, nice babies. Best shipped hatch I've ever had.

My second girl hatched out 6 babies and all are Marans or Olive eggers could go either way, by I think Marans.

YAY I now have my 19 babies all set up & cozy...

--I had 30 eggs to begin w/(7 bantams) (8 australorps-ebay) (7 mixed JG/BR?) (3 JG)...
---Day 7-10 I took out the unfertiles (2 australorps, 2 jersey giants), & took out the blood ringers w/no formation (2 australorps, 1 mixed jg/br)...

---***So technically...I'm going to count my Percentage as startin w/Day 10, since those were pretty much outta my control, I Let my eggs sit bout 15 hrs after I got them. Hoverbator Genesis 1588 w/turner was set for 100.0 deg; it stayed at 99.1-99.9 the whole time. Day 1-18 we had the humidity btw 44%-50% all the time;

---Day 18 I took out the turners & set them on their sides...b/c 1 of my bantam eggs had almost already pipped!, at 6am, she was hatched out at 6pm that night - early lil brat :)

---We had her hatch out on Day 18, Day 19 we had her smaller sister/brother hatch around 6am, named Angel...

Then another bantam, which turned out to be a cross silkie!! hatched out by 8am....& then "Domino" hatched out around 8pm that night....so by Day 19 we had 4 out of 23....

---Day 20: was when they almost ALL had cracks/pips...except for 2 bantam eggs & 1 australorp (they never made it, possible shrink wrapped from us opening the bator to move the chicks out (shoulda upped the humidity up to at least 80% then opened I think :( oh well lesson learned....) .... here's the eggtopsy I did on it :(
So sad :( her inner membrane of the shell was so hard, there was no way she was gonna peck her way through that....& I was an idiot & didn't realize that she was the 4th one to pip, didn't realize it until about 35 hrs later...it was too late :(

Here was #5 the 1st one on Day 20....
She was born w/an extended abdomen, which was like most of her yolk sac draggin it around, I didn't think she'd make it, but then my dad kept sayin "give her a chance give her time" & he was right! She's just as strong as the others now.

#6 was a random Australorp who I was goin to name Oz...but he got lost in the chickies LOL, so instead I named the last one Oz (he was special I helped him out, I had to, he was shrink wrapping)

#7 chickie, she hatched out of a huge red egg...Jersey giant daddy, (possible prod red or BR mommy)
She has big black spot down inside her shoulder that u can barely see, & then a lil mark on the back of her neck that u can't see in the pic, so I can pick her out :)

#8 is "BB" (black banny, black betty, lol), she is the only pure black bantam chick!, really small too, kinda in the middle there :) so cute!

#19, My lil Oz....he had pipped at least 24 hrs already, so I knew I had to help him out, he must of dried out while I was taking the other chicks out of the bator. He was the last egg to hatch out of all of them, he's still a tid weak...but he's doing good. I pretty much birthed him in our kitchen sink.....in my left hand, while picking his shell, and picking at the white membrane, leaving the see through membrane in tact for him to push through...
I helped him this far b/c his beak was the only thing out; ended up havin to help him further...

And wallah! he made it!!!! or she made it!!!, curled up in the corner w/her umbilical still attached... & slept a while, :) now she's good & I got an orange lil foot tag on her :) She's a tid weak still but not too wobbly.. :)

So yea here's all my 19 chicks outta 23....thats like what....

About 83% hatch rate for my first big hatch, aint' too shabby....

Yall's pics are adorable, congrats to those who got some babies, so sorry to those who didn't :( try try again!
