Setting the week of August 22 (or so... ) Everyone join!! You know you want to!

Which reminds me, I had a question! Just how long can they safely stay in the incubator after hatching? Googling gives me 24, 48 and 72 hours as possible answers, which isn't terribly helpful.
2-3 days is safe. after 3 days they need to come out and have some food and water. I have never left them beyond two days myself

I'll work on it. They have long stretches of hours between turning since I can only turn 3 times a day, and it's very quick, but that still leaves time for lots of humidity to leak out... I'm going to go raise the temps in there !

Yes raise it try and keep it around 99-100 humidity your fine :)
DO NOT OPEN THE BATOR!!! LOL
I know its tempting but don't pleaseee.
When ever you can try and ssee two maybe 3 eggs at a time (with out opening the bator just from the outside )
And see if they move try 3-6 minutes I'm pretty sure they have to move. Usually what a do I put a number abd see if the number/letter/mark if different from how I left it.

Our 1st chick hatched out a few hours ago!

Another one has been sitting with the egg unzipped since this morn...I think it's more of an "night owl" lol. My chick with the side air sac didn't make it. I think what happened is that after pipping through the shell, she turned around and sufficated.

A fourth one had pipped and 1/4 unzipped by the time I got home this afternoon and a few min ago a fifth has pipped. I have one left that hasn't pipped yet.

Lock down number 2 starts on Wed.

It's been a while since I've incubated, and I forgot how anxious lockdown still makes me... Even after hatching hundreds and hundreds of eggs... The first 17 days doesn't even bother me. I barely pay attention to it except to glance at temp/humidity and to turn the eggs 3x's a day. All that changes on day 18! It seems like I look in the viewing windows every five minutes trying to see if any have pipped the shell. *sigh*

It also doesn't help that these are amazing Silkie eggs from bargain! I'm looking forward to the little fluff balls.

Yes, I'm a guy, I think Silkies are cool, and I'm not ashamed to admit it!

This is the most exciting part of the whole thread! LOCKDOWN! now i find myself logging on every few hours looking for new hatch pictures on here.

lockdown for me is tomorrow early afternoon. and luckily for me its harvest time for my grapes so that will keep me busy so im not tempted to open the bator

I guess I'm the only one hatching ducks .... hatch day is supposed to the 20th (I think my notes are in other room.)

I hatched Muscovy ducks last week. Mom hatched 7 and abandoned her last two eggs. I found them cold and put them in the incubator and they both hatched out.
