Here the weather forecast says too for tomorrow .

It really was easy peasy to trigger a few Dutch to become broody. 2 days with chalk and rubber fake eggs in the nestboxes was enough to get 2 growling broodies. Black and Ini mini intent to become mother. With a little luck they will be within 3 ½ weeks. Could make an appointment to pick up a dozen bantam hatching eggs on Thursday.

Took awhile to catch up X Batts.
New cop seems have a few leaks in the roof.
Metal roof layed need to do a few modifications on it.
In the right now we have a tarp over it.

Thank you all for your encouragement and advice. These pictures are their first few minutes out in the garden, and a few pictures as they came to terms with the scariness of the shovel vs the joys of what the shovel turns up.

Two pool noodles worked well to show them where to go. I just used them to make my arms longer and easier to see. No chasing, flopping, or flapping involved; they all walked slowly to the garden and back.

Thank you for a heartwarming update. They look lovely and so ...focused! I'm not sure I've ever seen my chickens behave so calmly in the garden.

After watching for some time, current hypothesis is that the blood came from Killay's left foot (he's favouring it, and sitting much more than usual), and I don't think it was caused by fighting. They are all getting on absolutely fine, there has been no harassment of any by any, and that despite them all hunkering down in close proximity to shelter from the grotty weather today. So what I expect to find when I get to examine it is damage caused by something he chanced upon in the ground. More to follow...

Just in case you found nothing under Killay's feet : if you rule out fighting as a cause, you need to include the hens as well in your potentially hurt chickens.

I've found feathered legs can bleed a lot especially when they peck at them, but I don't think you have any chickens with those, and for mine it happened way more often during molting.

Rain at forty five degrees. Clouds low enough to poke with a stick. Maybe a slight exaggeration. One of the worst afternoons I can recall this year. They were not the slightest bit interested in coming out. Henry waited at the top of the ramp impatiently tapping a foot while I cleaned up and having made sure the food supply was secure and eaten a bit of mackerel, went of to roost.
Lima was next in half an hour later looking very disgruntled followed by Fret and then Carbon and finally Ella.
More of the same tomorrow apparently and just to cheer everyone up it's going to feel like 1C, Whatever it says in the weather forecast, it's going to be worse at the allotments. As you can tell, I didn't put my happy clappy hat on this morning and I won't be wearing it tomorrow either. I don't believe I've worn my happy clappy hat for the weather in the UK since the great winter of 1963 when the lake at the farm froze over and we went ice skating.

This kind of weather explains and excuses much about English temper. Must be interesting taking the bus home when you're soaked and smelling of wet chicken !
