Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Soapboxes are allowed on this thread.:D
I didn't know those percentages. I wonder if the prediction was right.
Even in the UK the pandemic seems to have boosted the range of chicken accessories you can get. I believe there was a notable increase in people taking in Ex Battery hens. How they fared, chickens and keeper would be an interesting study.
The British hen trust(??) published something on the increase in taking ex-batts. But I didn’t see anything about how they fared.

I put Henry in the coop last year the first night I thought it might reach zero degrees centigrade. Most nights he went in the coop after that for much of the winter and his favourites that would be beside him on the outside perch went in with him.
He's a big chap and he generates quite a lot of wamth especially if a hen gets under his wing a little which they do.
It may just be they want to roost where he does.
Chickens, they get stranger the longer you watch them.
Some of my bigger hens will allow smaller hens to nestle under their wings: Luna & Portia. Portia is a favourite because she is so big & fluffy though I don't think she generates all that much heat. Luna is just very tolerant.

Where I am standing is the start of a small lane that makes a very sharp right hand bend at the bottom. You can't get a bus or much more than a 7 ton truck around the bend. This makes the road pretty quiet.
Past the green gates on the right, up to that shadow patch and turn left is the entrance to the allotments. The noise from the main road fades away and the birdsong becomes audible.

Get there early and leave early again today.

I had 4 of them lying down around my chair at one point.

There's a little robovac at my house and it's given me so much more time. One of the few with strong data privacy.
My mom gave me one 20 yrs ago. No wifi so no privacy issue. But it ate fringe rugs, cords and got stuck between the wall and the toilet. Didn't hold much. I hope the new ones are better

There was an article somewhere in the BBC I think that had some interesting information on the most recent progress in AI. Terminator is looking more likely by the day.:p
If you apply narrow criteria, an argument for sentience can be made and there was one made by a Google staff member just last week. He's now on administrative leave while the lawyers work out how to sack/silence him. That's what they do when their own ethicists rock the boat. In any case, I prefer wide criteria for sentience.

To be clear, I don’t want sentience in my home help robot. I don’t want to feel any guilt when I ask it to do the most unpleasant chores and don’t even say thank you.
