Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

My daughter learned math in an alternative way at the high school she went to. This method was much more fun than the one I had in the past and also more fun as the method my son had on his high-school (general and similar to mine). It was called the Wageningse method.
Translated with google.
Math
Mathematics helps to structure your environment and thus better understand the world. The Wageningen Method is happy to help you with this. But beware: it takes effort to understand new things.
In addition to exercise, there is also relaxation. Because mathematics has an infinite supply of puzzles and the Wageningen Method offers a lot of them.
Meaningful, attractive and relevant
The Wageningen Method believes that students should be offered meaningful mathematics, and that mathematics should be attractive to the students. We appeal to the minds of students and insist that they understand what they are learning and why the material presented to them is relevant.
Education
Since 1973, the Wageningse Method has been working intensively on mathematics education for HAVO and VWO. She has been a household name in Dutch mathematics for years. Because the Wageningen Method is always at the forefront of developments, it is up to date.
Materials
The materials of the Wageningen Method are strikingly different and are self-published on a non-profit basis. The Wageningen Method is therefore an affordable solution for schools that do not shy away from an intellectual challenge and that like to work with involved teachers and pupils.
Maybe you can find something like that in English too?
That method is different than the one we use.
I often poke fun at word problems if and when they come up. A favorite example of mine is, "Mary has ten cans of tomato soup. The recipe she is following calls for five cans. How many batches can she make?"
My answer to that is, "It depends on the other ingredients. If she has all the ingredients she needs, two batches. If she does not, then the number can vary from zero, one, or two."

One important lesson: don’t be smarter than the one who made the question.
In that case the answer is 2.
If the question maker added. Think out of the box. Your answer is perfect.

I did not say I was smarter. There is no box on the page. At this point, I like being literal. Unless I can use some poorly written law to keep chickens. Then I'm fine with not being literal.
I am trying to make a website, and you have to think of all the possible issues and stuff. Hence my answer to the math page. If I don't answer the math question like that I will forget whatever it was and get bored.
According to chicken math i have no chickens.

Now if someone put a question about chickens like "You have 10 hens that lay eggs. Someone gives you 10 day old chicks. How many do you have?" The correct answer is zero.

Fret is a step further down the broody road. She's puffing up a bit when approached by the other hens. I spoke to C about it and said it is my intention to let Fret sit if she wants to. No objections were mentioned. I think the chances of her hatching are low if she goes for it, but if she does she'll hatch Lightbars.
I miss the whole broody experience. I know I was forever swearing about it on By Bobs thread but....

I would love to see this, but... wouldn't you be worried being far away from the chickens most of the day if Fret hatched chicks ? Fretting for Fret 🙂 ?
I'm thinking about how not having the chicken at home makes already things complicated with the adults, especially whenever they have health issues.
Good morning X Batts We have one out side cat. 4 inside where we raise peeps cats would if given the chance eat peeps.
We keep them apart easy peasy... We have like 6 baby gates 5 exercise pens.
Screen doors.

That last picture is priceless 🤣.

To be fair, I think my broody last year was so tiny that the cats were not sure she was a chicken (=a sort of friend that one should be cautious around) or some kind of bird under them in the food chain.
This year the broody is a mix standard / bantam and she is much bigger and has a lot of fluff when she puffs, and I bet the cats won't come near.

Chipie the tiny broody, with one month old baby Gaston cautiously approaching Grochatila napping.

I need to know: what rules does this thread have?
There is only one rule; pay your taxes!:D
Taxes are pictures of your chickens.

However, this is not a chat thread. If people want to chat about non chicken related topics there are countless threads for this on BYC.
This is also an adult thread and that does need to be born in mind.
Primarily the thread is a diary of a bunch of chickens kept at an allotment I have taken on the care of.

A couple of tips for a happy thread life.
Many different nationalities post and read this thread. There are also people who eat their chickens and many different keeping circumstances.
Reading through the posts on any forum it is easy to find views one doesn't agree with. One simple stratagy can help everyone put foreward their point of view without starting a flame war.
Don't quote the person one disagrees with.
Click the like button and if you have an alternative view then post that as an unrelated post. This helps to clarify what you think rather than posting a knee jerk response to what the other person thinks.
Most views are welcome here. That's one way of learning and we all need to do this.

Finally, having been in the situation and found it intensly irritating, try to limit your post count. Nobody wants to have to wade through pages of drivel. I know some people are post count driven but I don't want that here, please, thank you.:)

While she's sitting, if she sits, I just have to take her off the nest and make sure she eats, drinks and whatever else she needs to do.
Should any chicks hatch then I'll spend more time there until I'm reasonably confident she's got a grip on the situation. If it all goes wrong then at least she's had the chance.
