Totally different taste. I wish I had someone rather than do myself. Nearest place is 2 and half hours away. And they have a 25 minimum, and have to be there 8am and take home hours later.
Oh and they are Amish so when the weather changes they stop processing

Yes same thing here, almost a 3 hr drive be there early… they don’t have a minimum but it’s not worth the gas in my truck to just bring a few. I brought a few Roos I couldn’t rehome a couple yrs ago.

I don’t know, maybe if I raised a bunch of them this year, and brought them down it would be worth it. The person I sell eggs to is interested in any silkie Roos I may process’s, as they are black meat and his Filipino friends think they are a delicacy, the black meat is supposed to be something special.

After tonight’s horrible ‘butterball’ turkey I am ready to grow up some and process them. Like my neighbour says though ‘don’t name your livestock’.

Good to know - I see some research in the near future for me. Might need a bigger barn - or shift the horses somewhere hahaha - poor geegees I already took over my one mares supper sized stall for a Summer House - will need it for a Turkey house now I guess.

Can anyone confirm this for turkeys and silkies too? I thought it was only possible with sturdy chickens.

My turkeys have squashed chickens. If there is a lot of room and places to hide and the chickens will run, it's ok.
I just had a rooster that wouldn't run killed. When Turkeys get an idea they can be relentless.

Day off today whether I want one or not. Zero public transport.
C is doing the chickens and geese. Slightly irritated by the fact today stayed dry and the chickens could have got out for a decent amount of time.
Rain forcast for tomorrow.
