"You don't get any respect for just looking pretty around here boy"Aw, poor Zack. He don't get no respect?
They all have issues if one knows them well enough. Who is the steadiest in your flock? One of my Penedesencas makes a lot of work at shut up. She is always last in, and if she is even near the pop door - inside the coop as well as outside it - when I approach, whoosh - she's run off. There have been times when she's run out 3 times! Drives me nuts
In every other way she's a great hen; lays good strong dark brown eggs (darker than her sisters, so better genes from a SOP perspective), right through last year and this - she hasn't gone broody (both her sisters have); very popular with the boys and her plumage holds up well to all their attention; she gets on fine with all the girls too; fast moulter; in fact, no trouble to anyone but me at closing time. So hopefully it's just a quirk of that chick, and hopefully it won't find itself shut out by the auto door one night.
Janeka, she's a rock. They all have issues if one knows them well enough. Who is the steadiest in your flock?

Yes I am really happy for @Perris 's article to show up on front page!
It's not often mentioned in those should I get chickens threads just how frustrating they can be. I have in the past, I must confess, jumped up and down while shouting at them.I have locked those out. well before dark for less than a half hour. They get frantic trying to get back in. After a couple times they quit doing that.
I was about ready to invite the first one that did this to dinner I was so frustrated. I was going to just leave her out, but of course I came back at dusk and let her in.
I have gotten very annoyed with the amount of effort they require at times, but I find it worth it when one jumps on my lap. It's not often mentioned in those should I get chickens threads just how frustrating they can be. I imagine that was very effective... in not achieving whatever it was you wanted them to doIt's not often mentioned in those should I get chickens threads just how frustrating they can be. I have in the past, I must confess, jumped up and down while shouting at them.![]()
Must be laying solid eggs?Janeka, she's a rock.
