Shadrach's Lamps

What oils do you use for your finish?
I've tried a number of oils. Mineral oils work best, next are mixtures of mineral and nut oils which tend not to smell, or be as sticky as say olive oil.
I use beeswax from the bees here and bought beeswax.

I'm about done with this one. I'll get the electrics in tomorrow and get some more wax on it and polish it up. It's not going to get a high gloss finish.

It looks like something Mondrian would make.
It's not regular enough for Mondrian, plus the back and front are a bit of a contrast. But, I see where you're coming from.
Anyway, electrics going in.
I'm going to have to do something about the base. It's too bright.

I was thinking if he made lamps in wood, he'd have made lines like that.

OK, I've now read through the thread and looked at all the pictures. All I can say is :
:th:bow

On the last piece I actually like it better with the "flaw" repaired. Not sure just why but somehow the visual balance has changed. I could never dream up or "see" those shapes in the wood. The best I can do is appreciate the grain and color changes as I plane/sand rough wood ... with power tools.
