I never believed in this stuff until this happened to me:

When we moved into our old house in 2000, my daughter was 10. She had the upstairs bedroom; son and I had rooms downstairs. She was hysterical one night - hollering that there was an animal in her room. I went up, searched, and reassured her there was nothing. The animal - actually animalS - visited her often after that and she, being an animal lover, felt calmed by them and never said anything more to me. Until later.

Kids were at their dads. I went to bed one night and was just dozing off when I felt a cat walking across the top of my pillow, above my head. I've had cats before and I do now, but didn't when this happened. I layed real still til it walked all the way across. Once it got off the pillow, I sensed a medium-sized dog sitting on the floor looking at me. I didn't have a dog...

I wasn't scared, felt calm, but it freaked me out a little. In the morning I was telling my neighbor who had lived in her house since she was a child. She said the people who lived in my house did have a medium-sized dog who lived to an old age and passed away. They also had a cat...and this part is sad...when she was about 13 (she was in her eighties when this happened) the neighbors went on vacation and asked her family to watch their cat. Her father was an alcoholic; came home drunk one day and ran the cat over in the neighbor's driveway.

I told my daughter and she said "See Mom? I TOLD you!!!" She even had names for them.

About two years later my son started screaming one night as he slept that there was an animal in his room. We never told him about our encounters because he was young and it would have terrified him. So I did the same thing - searched his room, told him there was nothing there, and sent him back off to sleep.

But I knew they were there and that they were harmless. So now I do believe.

I believe in them, see them and think it is normal...spirits visit. I always see my one grandfather and great grandfather at times I most need them (I was very close to them as a child and adult).

But scarey...Back in 1982, my ex-husband and I were stationed at Fort Stewart, GA. We were newlyweds and rented this beautiful little house that had been built in the 20's and all was well.

Day 2 in the house, I left the kitchen to unpack stuff in the bedroom and heard a banging. I went to investigate and all the cabinet doors and drawers were open in the kitchen. So I thought little of it, closed them and continued my day. An hour later...same thing. So, I tell DH that evening and he laughs at me. About 2 am the banging sound awakens him and he finds the same thing...all of them open. He closes them and goes back to sleep. When he get up in the morning he finds them all open.

This went on for a week, then it got worse. Suddenly I see all the doors and drawers open and all of my carving knives set out in a neat row on the countertop.

I was the only one in the house. It happened that night and the next morning. I called the realtor and broke my lease....we moved 2 days later.

I had smudged the house, tried to talk to this spirit and nothing. So when the knives were left out, I took the hint and said SEE YA!

I grew up in a "haunted" house. My current house is haunted AND
I have a spirit "tied" to me.

Way to many stories to tell since I am short on time today(company coming)

I have only had one or two scare the daylights out of me though. And luckily none "here" When we were house shopping I actually turned a property down because of the spirit in the house.

Being a Medium, spirits seem to be attracted to me. One night (11-7 shift) at a residental care facility, the evening girls had reported and investigated a strange smell and cold spots near it, talked with the boss' and actually brought the fire department in for safety reasons.
Being that I was in charge that night, I wanted to know what, when and WHERE before anyone left for home. I felt the walls, nothing.
As we (both shifts) were waiting for an ambulance to bring a patient 'home', this strange odor began to come from the increasingly cold kitchen. One of the girls said there is that odor, and began feeling, touching the walls etc trying to locate this burning smell. Nothing.
With the evening shift and the boss' left, my co-worker and I went about our bed checks, smelling and feeling for any strange hot spots. Going upstairs to check my folks and get medications for the midnight folks, I went into the part of the home that had the smell origionally, nothing. But the temp seemed awfully cold...it was set for 78, so I left it. Climbed the 3 steps into the med room to pour the meds I needed, this burning smell engulfed me with the cold like I should have seen my breath!
Needless to say, I went back around checking outlets and stuff (had to be logical), did bed check on all the rooms down to the back stairway when I heard someone on the first floor scream 'help me'. Gulp and stepped along quicker down the stairs, looking in the rooms that I thought I heard it from, nothing, asleep. I heard this sound again, needing help, I rounded the corner, it was coming from the stairway to the cellar. I knew all my people were taken care off, looking and all the locks (plus older ones we did not use!) were locked, gave out the meds I needed to tend to.
I found my co-worker in the kitchen, white as a ghost standing in the corner. Wide eyes, tears and trembling, she said this cold feeling came over her and the smell was like nothing she ever smelled before!
I recognised the smell, it was like dehorning an animal.
Needless to say, the rest of the night was odd to say the least, both of us were scared and it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop.
I started working days at that point, I was never going to endure another night like that, nope. The next year around the same time, one of the ladies was my co-worker now working with the boss' daughter went through the same thing. Come to find out, the towns constable was standing there chatting with the two nurses when all 3 of them heard the scream 'help me'!
They were all scared, checked out the sounds, just like that last year, only the living were accounted for, where the ghost was, none of us wanted to know!

spook- isnt it lovely when they do that?

One of mine has figured out how to turn things off and on, lock doors and move things. Rolled up a rug in my daughters room when she was an infant. After having to unroll it three times I removed the rug.
We have been woken up by the bed being shaken. No reports of seismic activity and we live in MA. not a hot spot of tremors. Plus the neighbors felt nothing. I am sure they thought I was strange for asking though.

I often smell cigarette smoke in the house. We dont smoke, nor do any of my neighbors. And I can smell it during the winter now and again as well. My dad smoked. then there is the music. Ohhh the music!

The house was built in 1920. For weeks after we moved in it just didnt feel "right"
Then i began painting the walls and hanging my art work etc. After a month I began hearing big band music every afternoon. It sounded like it was coming from an upstairs bedroom we didnt use. We are now turning it into a library. Anyway. I got a strong "feeling" that I should play big band music and songs from the Righteous Brothers, Sinatra and the Andrews Sisters. So I went and bought all I could find online and burned cd's. I tell ya. The entire mood of the house changes when the "house music" is on. It's nearly tangible. So I do what makes them happy.

Then there is "my" spirit.

He has been "with me" since .. heavens the 1990's. Long time!!! He has gotten my husband to believe in spirits, or atleast him. And me to believe even more in reincarnation and fate. I wouldnt wish him to be anywhere else. And he has chosen to stay

I count him as one of my gifts now. Even when he decides to play games.

I dont think I am a medium though. My experiences are more like the Melinda character on "Ghost Whisperer" Although I can "pick up" more than humans.
From what my aunt has told me it runs on my fathers side of the family.
We are empaths. Which some times REALLY stinks.

now.. for a ghost story

My moms house was built in the 1700s and was part of an estate before the town became the town.

When my father had the barn built he choose to have it at the ned of the driveway. Well when they began digging the foundation they came up with pieces of burnt shoe and wood. Come to find out the site they were building on was the site of the original barn which had gone up ion flames in the mid 1800's. taking half the house with it. In the fire a horse and a piny perished. Along with the daughter of the owner. When they found the body of the girl and her pony they buried both in the well in the apple orchard(which had also been mostly destroyed by the fire ) Because that was where the girl hung out with the pony.

Fast forward to the late 1980's
My sister brings home a witch board(Ouija sp) my mom has never allowed them in the house. But never told us why. Well one afternoon we(mom, sister and I) were hanging out in my moms room and playing with the darn thing. And we get the ghost of the little girl. Who we knew was in the house. so that wasnt a shock. My mom asks what horse do you like better. We had a brown appy and a grey pinto at the time. Board spells out "brown" My mom then asks why. Board spells out. "My pony brown" Now. My mom didnt know that I had been finding brushes in the brown mares stall for MONTHS!
Anyway, we asked a few more questions(fave color etc) and the board starts going crazy. Then settles and spells out "I am going to kill you" over and over again. It did it 3 times before my mom said ENOUGH and threw it out the window. It stayed out there until she had a neighbor remove it. I havent used one since and will not allow it in my house.

Come to think of it. I am glad my house is so easy to keep happy. Way to many freaky things have happened at my moms place. Sometimes i think it was because no one was "listening" to the ones that are there. And that aggravated them> But I know at least one spirit there isnt the nicest. He has pushed people into the walls in the root cellar. Locked people out. Kicked doors open. Thrown things. Yeah, he was fun. I refuse to let my mom go to the basement. Luckily she finally takes me seriously and has a neighbor go down there if something needs to be done.

I worked in a nursing home for many years...and of course have heard many ghost stories from my co-workers...but i actually never saw or heard anything myself...until one night.....we had a private room on the floor that i worked on...and this room had been occupied by a priest...we all loved him....and he always sat in this same chair in the room...well he passed away..and a new lady moved in the room....about a week after she moved in the room....she rang the bell one night..and i answered it....and she was very upset...she said.."get that man out of my room!"..and pointed to the chair that the father always sat in..so now..i'm like..um...ma'am..there is noone in the chair...and she said.."there is SO a man in that chair!"...."and he's wearing a black suit like a priest"...

had a uncle that I was very close too. He raised my father after my father's mother died. My uncle got very sick. I moved in with him to take care of him (for almost a year). Well he died in Oct of "88". I then moved on with my life always thinking of our good times. I met my husband in July of "89", married him in Sept of "90", and had our daughter in March of "92". One night shortly after giving birth to my first born I had what I thought was a dream. My Uncle came to be and told me that he was so glad that I found happiness and that I had a wonderful daughter. We also talked about other things. He also thanked me for what I did for him towards the end. Well the next morning my husband kept asking me who I was talking to in our room that night. I told him that I had a weird dream and must have been talking in my sleep. I was given a very funny look and we never talked about it again. Well about six months later I was asking my mother for some pictures of this uncle to be able to tell my daughter about him and his impact on my life. Well when we got the photos out my husband whole attitude change. He told my that the photo was the person I was talking to that night in our room. I told my husband that it couldn't be because, he died before we had met. Well I have had no more visit from my uncle. I wouldn't mind them. I have had other weird things happen without being able to explain.

Also I work in an old school. Part of it burned down in the late 60's. No one was hurt. It was rebuilt. Lots of wierd stuff goes on there. The night crew like to stay together. They dont like to be on seperate floors. They also have dug the grounds because of a water problem, and when doing that they found parts of an old well from the 1800's. It was pretty cool.

Have any of you done EVP work? Electronic Voice Phenomena (horrible speller), look it up and give it a try, these are interesting.
If you are young, please talk with your parents about this! I don't want anyone getting into trouble or anything like that.
I have a book of spirit photos, orbs, children etc that have been collected through the years by friends and family. It is interesting, and to me, it proves that are loved ones are near us. Bringing comfort.
Don't forget about god protecting and always live your beliefs, to do good is part of this life. Nurture and nature are two of the finest things we can give each other and especially to ourselves.
I am just loving this site, from chicks, ducks, geese all the way up to spooks!
Be well and again, I certainly do love this site.
