since everybody is getting new chicks i was wodering for the price do you think meyer hatcher is worth it or is mcmurray better because the breeds i like from meyer hatchery are really pricey each chick

I don't use Murray's, so I can't give a price comparisons. But if you'd want better birds, Meyer's Hatchery is the way to go.

I don’t think either hatchery has Seramas. McMurray when it comes to colored eggs has Whiting True Blue for about $5, Whiting True Green for about $5, Americanas (actually Easter Eggers for about $5, and Cream Legbar for about $8. They also have Cuckoo Marans, BCM, & Welsummer all in the $5 range if you want darker eggs. Their stock on some of these breeds is extremely limited. Shipping is free with 15 chick order, & $35 for less than 15 chicks.

Meyer has a variety of blue and green layers as their Egger varieties (Green Queen, Lakeshore Egger, Easter Egger. & Steele Egger in the $5 range, Olive Egger and Cream Legbar in the $10 range, and some fancy Ameraucanas & Frost White Legbar upwards to $25 per chick. They also have some colorful Egger bantams for about $15 each. They also have cuckoo Marans & Welsummer at the $5 range, plus some other darker Marans layers for more $. Their shipping is $50 for a small order, $15 for 15-24 chicks, and $10 for 25+.

Debating cancelling my second McMurrays order, it’s all bantams. The only ones we can’t guarantee to get locally are buff Brahma and sexed polish… Ugh, I’m so bad at decision making!!! Mostly likely going to try my luck with the polish and cancel later if it doesn’t work out

Sexed polish are tricky to find, right? Are they the only hatchery that offers Polish pullets?

I might do a Meyers order next year because they have 3 sexlink bantam breeds. My expansion next year will be a few bantys!

I’m not sure actually, I haven’t looked at many hatcheries for them specifically! I’m getting sexed buff laced and white topped black from Meyers, I’ll have to look and see why I picked Meyers. It’s been so long since the order

So far these lil ones have been so friendly! Definitely a great addition and loving how little the eat lol

I’ve never heard of the Lemon Neiderheinner chickens! I just looked them up and they’re really gorgeous! I may have to get one on the future I need chickens like I need a hole in my head…but I lost 5 chickens so…I added two young Silkie pullets, a mille fleur d’Uccle pullet, a bantam light Brahma pullet, 3 Olandsk Dwarf hens and one OD rooster, and then chicks from local breeders or eBay hatching eggs.

Bantam Cochin-Light Brahma cross (freebie egg to fill all the egg holes )

Haven't posted here since my life flipped upside down, but. I live on a farm now, we currently have a flock of 6 (4 hens, 2 roosters) and chicken math happened.
