She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

you don't have to live by that rule you can brood one and two week old chicks together no problem. we do it all the time . I would get the hatch going and have a better chance hatching chicks than loading two week old eggs . because I remember Walnuts stats a little and twenty day old eggs don't hatch that good . the thought I had was more along the lines of this . if you have two dozen eggs by Saturday. set those . start gathering again . for the next Saturday which will be the same time as your shipped eggs come in enough to fill up  the turner in incubator #1 which already has week old eggs turning . you should have your dozen shipped eggs rested and ready to go . if they come on time you are only going to have a dozen eggs in the incubator . and maybe two dozen in incubator #1 when it's time to lock them down to hatch take the dozen shipped and put them in incubator #1  use #2 as your hatcher .  I have confused my self hope I didn't confuse you  dose this make sense ?

This is a great idea!! Thank you so much. Apparently I'm over thinking things and can't come up with simple solutions..lol
I'll be setting (some) eggs this Saturday!!

You know, you're probably going to have to walk me through this when it comes time for lockdown.. lol The more I think about it, the more I wonder if I know what the heck I'm doing. I really shouldon't try to function pre-coffee.

I was wondering if the ship-a-thon is still on.

How is everyone? Miss you guys. Been so busy lately I don't even have time to gaze lovingly at myself in the mirror; forsaking household duties right now. . .

Yeah, the ship a thon is still on. I have a ? Is it too late to add an other person? Someone not on this thread, but a long time member who wants to gain some shipping experience.

Certainly, you have time to forsake household duties. That ranks right up there with slinging chicken poo, and watching things grow!

It's a 3 tier square cake and we are doing Pac Man on one side, Donkey Kong on the opposite side, Frogger on one side and Q-Bert on it's opposite side. Provided I have the patience for all that. It's going to be a long day! Better get cracking!

Missed a quote- Of course I'll have time for pics...lol They'll be from my crappy cell, but I'll have them...lol

Hi guys, I'm going to jump in here, hope you don't mind! I'd categorize myself somewhere between the 2 thread starters. I love to candle, and I'm pretty good at leaving things be once lockdown has come. I will assist a stuck chick if I need to though. Along with some EE's and OE'S, I have 1 marans hen laying a nice dark egg for me about every other day. I really want to hatch some of her eggs, so the eggs I'm going to set next week are going to be older than your normal "7 days or newer" eggs. I'm keeping a damp towel over them in a Styrofoam egg container, tipping opposite ends twice a day. The air cells appear to be maintaining, eventhough the air in our house is so dry. (Cold here in Michigan, furnace running). I've heard of people hatching old eggs or even refrigerated eggs. I'd love to hear some tips from those that have some experience with this. Thanks ~ Megan
I was in the same predicament in November. I only had 1-2 hens laying and I really wanted to do the NYD Hal. So I started collecting eggs on November 9th. Set day was December 8th. That means my oldest egg was 31 days old when I set it. Can you believe that, that egg was the first to hatch!! I had a great hatch. I had set a dozen and 9 made it to lockdown and all 9 hatched. I stored the eggs in a egg carton on my counter and turned them once in the morning and once at night and maybe once during the day if I remembered. BUT my humidity in the house at that time was still good. So the air cells were not overly big when I set them. I think keeping your humidity up is a good idea.
I have shipped eggs coming next week.. my first time trying shipped eggs. So I'll probably be a little cautious with those. Heck, I even ordered another incubator so I could hatch them separately from mine.. Oh one thing about the damp towel, it's keeping the eggs cooler than without it. I think cooler is better than warmer, right?
I've done my fair share of shipped eggs and done lots of research on the best methods for shipped. If you need any advice for them, please don't hesitate to ask. What's your plan so far for them?
I have a couple of silkie eggs in my bator now that I also marked cold, collected after work on cold days. They are on day 11 and growing fine so far :fl PURPLE!!!
I was wondering how to mark the eggs that I've collected that were cold. Duh, seems obvious now. "Cold"...good idea! :)
So tomorrow is my son's 8th birthday. Even though we are having his actual party Saturday, I'm putting the cake together tomorrow. I still have half the upstairs to get in order and I want to steam clean the downstairs. I have a feeling I'll be wanting to toss this cake half way through it....lol We'll see. Anyhow busy day tomorrow and the rest of the week.
I was going to ask about the cake but I saw your next post. Going with the theme from the movie! I can't wait to see it!! I really, really wish you lived closer because my kids would LOVE that cake!!
