She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I don't know anything about geese period except growing up our neighbors across the road had two white ones that were mean as Satan. They'd go after the grill on the car when you tried to pull down the road. They were awful things...lol
This was hilarious!! I was picturing devil geese! LOL!
Just found this Brower model, but the reviews aren't stellar. Anyone here ever used one? I know there are some here that use the old Browers. This one is all plastic and dishwasher safe! http://browerequip.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1239&Itemid=709 And speaking of homemade incubators.... I was out in our warehouse and there's an old metal desk about to be thrown away. I was looking at the drawer unit on one side and wondering if I could make an incubator out of it. Looks like it would come completely off the desk itself. Thoughts? (yes, its laying on its end, on the floor, I rotated the pic... no need to tilt your head... )
I skipped ahead to the picture and was thinking "how the heck is that thing standing up?" Turned the phone around and all...then read the rest of the post! How'd you know I was going to do that!!?! :gig
I have been so bad. We had a neighborhood cleanup and someone put out one of those thick fisher price kids play houses and I almost grabbed it for a coop for a breeding pen. Now that's redneck! I constrained myself though. Your husband is rad. My wife is like "when did those eggs get into the incubator? I thought you were done?". I told her "You don't choose the chicken life, the chicken life chooses you". :lau
Your crazy! I've been looking ALL over for one of those plastic playhouses to use for the chickens!! I even told my family to be on the lookout for the "kids"! I must be turning redneck!!! ;)
My daughter keeps the rabbits. 3 lionheads. One just had kits a few weeks ago.
Awww. They are precious! Long before chicken I had Dutch & Netherland rabbits. I loved them!!

Well, no one is posting much, so I will give a silkie update just to show how hands off I am. I think the last time I posted we were up to 17. I told you guys I'm totally hands off, and don't even mark to see if new eggs are laid. I know they are, I just don't know which ones, so I leave them all. I had one broody stay on the nest for another week, and she hatched 4 more chicks. She had a new one 4 out of 7 days when I would come home from work. I was worried I would have to break her when the last one hatched, but as soon as the last egg was gone, she came down with the chick. Now I have 5 silkie hens walking around with 21 chicks, and it's like a chicken commune. The chicks just go to whoever is the closest when they want to be covered. Now I have a new broody that started sitting Sunday, so it will start all over again:rolleyes:

Post a pic of the silkie mama/baby commune!!

Ever thought about making your own pillows? I was just picturing all the feathers floating around the pen! Sounds like they have a sweet little commune going. You only have one silkie Roo, right?
Yes, one roo and 7 adult hens. I will probably grow these out to see how they look, keep about 4 more hens for myself, and sell the rest. It definitely looks like it snowed in the pen, especially if the hens start getting after a non broody that gets too close

Post a pic of the silkie mama/baby commune!!

The last pic was when there were 15. I haven't gotten any pics of the 21 yet. Can't get them to all sit still at the same time

I know it's hard to get pictures, especially when they are outside. I saw these pics before. They are adorable. Do you only have white Silkies? Do you like any of the other colors?

Yes, I only have white. If I had it to do over again, I would have shopped around for bearded silkies. I love these, but they just look like something is missing after seing the bearded. I'm not a huge fan of black silkies, but I really like partridge. If I were to add another color, that would be my preference
