I'm sorry.....but I am so dissappointed in the lack of support these days...I loved BYC last year when I got answers to every one of my newbie questions and within minutes. Now, what? Its all about contests, and rambling about insignificant nothings! Here is one of my two posts from last night (and reposted today).............

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=311220

But, never mind, my beautiful Buff Orp, sweet baby GIRL, is DEAD!!!and my roo-roo, Beans, misses her terribly. He has been crowing, nay barking like a dog, looking for his mate. What was I thinking getting involved with chickens???? They are adorable as chicks, but they can die at the drop of a hat!! And after you get all attached to them, it is just too hard!!!

Sorry, for venting, but I had no where else to turn but my once faithful BYC and I got nothin'!

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your chicken. I just started owning chickens not to long ago so I'm no help when it comes to chicken first aid. I don't post where I'm no help at all.

So sorry for your loss. I usually send my condolences and must have missed this one. It is hard to lose a pet. Don't give up on BYC, these people are the best. We have all had a post missed now and then. Again, so sorry for your loss.

Your thread may have been missed because it was not in Emergencies. I never saw it until I saw this thread and after that, I moved it to Emergencies, but obviously it was moot by then. We do not have an avian, or other, veterinarian on staff here and in my honest opinion, no advice is better than the wrong advice. If folks don't know the answer, they do not usually post just to be posting. Sorry for your loss. I've lost plenty of birds over the last couple of years to internal laying, ovarian infections, tainted feed, etc. Some things are just beyond your control.

I did not miss your post, however, I didn't know how to respond to it or have any concrete answers to give you. Sometimes things are beyond our control and you must do what you can help your girl pass on peacefully or rally to stay alive. I've lost birds due to internal laying and it sickens me and I've used all the search machine to help me.

If I post something on here and got no response, I am not offended because alot of the posts are shuffled down or no one really got an answer. I would not be so quick to judge members for ignoring me if I do not have any responses to my post.

If you really need an answer, contact the mods or someone who got speed fingers to get a reply. They can help you find a link you need if you are lost.

I am sorry you lost your girl. She is in a better place in chicken heaven!

Two things--1. Buy the book "The Chicken Health Handbook" by Gail Damerow, to help you find answers when it seems you can't find them.

2-I don't know you and I don't know your typical posting pattern, but I find that many people post a lot of "of that's a pretty coop" or "HELP" posts but then when others need help they aren't around to give it (only to ask questions/emergencies or post short/shallow comments). Do unto others as you'd want done unto you. Again, I don't know you, but this goes for a lot of people.

Sorry about your loss. I, myself have an injury post that has been up for several days with no help.

I too was sorry to hear about your loss. Yes, some posts are missed but there are so many posts that do get answered and you do learn a lot. I read the "emergency thread" even when we don't have any sick birds so that in case we do get one we have a jump on where to start. We have only had chickens for one year and the knowledge that we have gained from here has helped so much.

With that said - it doesn't ease the pain of loosing one of your birds - which we did to a prolapse condition in a matter of hours. Now we understand what to look for and hopefully if it happens again we can help before its too late.

Don't give up on chickens - remember that if they were in the wild there would be a lot more dangers in their lives - and if they were on a commercial chicken farm - well we won't go there. Keep in mind she had a good life even if it was short and you did everything you could given your knowledge and experience.
