SHE'S DEAD...thanks BYC for BEING here for me!!!! :-)

Oh my, I am really sorry. It is so heartbreaking to lose a beloved family pet.

One of my fears about getting chickens is what just happened to you as it seems they have more unusual (to me) emergencies than our furry companions. I keep the Health Handbook just in case but I would also post as you did to get moral support and information.

I never did see your post and I don't even have chickens yet but if I did see it I would've at least offered my best thoughts for a recovery. I do notice that many folks here do offer help and genuinely care. I can only guess this was an oversight--a big one perhaps--it happens to the best of us. Again, my sympathies.

So sorry for your loss, and your feelings of frustration.I am a newbie and have not dealt with any health issues.

I am so sorry for your loss...had I seen your post I would have told you what I know...

Not to be rude but to state a fact.... do you have any idea how many posts hit these forums in one minute? I know of no one in these forums that sits here glued to it for every potential post 24/7. Your attitude comes from your upset which I understand, however, understand that none of us are avian vets and we can only share with you what we have faced, read and etc.

It sounds like you did everything that any of us would have done.

I am sorry that you lost a beloved friend!!!

That being said....and this may make me very unpopular....I have to say, ALL of us need to take responsibility for our own animals. We can not be blaming others when our pets die. Its unfair and unkind!!! Grief is a hard thing to go through, but please don't take it out on us.

I am so sorry that you are going through a tramatic time but everyone should have backup plans when emergencies happen. I have the #'s of 3 different vets that deal w/chickens. I have an "emergency" kit full of things I can administer if needed. I have sterile instruments (I'm an RN) just in case. I have antibiotic, salves, creams...you name it. Even with all this, I still have had my babies die. Sadly its life.

Chickens are amazing animals, but sadly everything passes. I hope you don't give up on such beautiful creatures.

I am sorry you did not get a reply to your post, that has happened to me too. People on this forum have a vast array of interests besides chickens and many use it as a social networking site.

I read all the emergency posts, mostly for I can learn, but being new seldom have advice I can pass along, when I am able to and when have knowledge of something posted I like to share it.

I am sorry that in your case I had no knowledge to share - I sincerely wish I did!

Wishing you lots of love and knidness.

Jenny

sorry for your loss, the unexpected does happen hopefully you will have the time to read up on common aliments now before the next hits so you will be able to handle the common problems yourself if we can't help.

Certainly, anytime I can be of help I try to be.

PS: Self education on poop before a poop issue happens can be worth its weight in well......... gold.

I m sorry... I didnt even see the thread... I lost a BR that was eggbound early winter... then lost a blue ameracuana girl the next month.. no clue why, she had the bright green poop and had never laid an egg. I wish I would have seen the thread, but besides the hot baths and some oil in the vent theres not much more that can be done. Please don't hold it against us... I was a newbie last spring too and everyone was very helpful.. still helpful , just not always on time...
